“So, the picopresso.youtube is pretty glowing about this little brewer. Not without reason but it's got foibles and suits a very specific use case.
It takes a while to dial in. Don't listen to YouTubers with 19 or 20g doses. Any more than 18g and it chokes. Also very sensitive to grind size, pretty easy to go too sour. Around 675 microns is ok. (9 numbers on a 1zpresso J). Tamp with the funnel and a gentle tamp without.
It can also be very messy before you get used to it and get a routine dialled in. It's also slow. You won't be making a round of espresso for friends with it.
So who's it for? Pretty much me. I didn't go for a full machine due to counter space. I also only really need espresso for the odd espresso martini, espresso tonic or afagato. For that it's fine. I'm not sure I'd even recommend it for portable use in a office due to the cleanup required but for occasional use at home it's a good budget option.”
“An ideal travel espresso machine and also a cheap and uncomplicated way of getting into genuine espresso without encumbering your worktop with an intrusive, maintenance intensive, conventional espresso machine. The useful video by Dan Fellows on youtube entitled "How to use the Wacaco Picopresso" tells you all you need to know. Once one has established a slick, efficient workplan it is easy to obtain consistently good espresso. I chose the Picopresso over the Nanopresso because of its more substantial construction. I use the Picopresso daily and have found it worthwhile to also purchase the optional Wacaco Picopresso stand. In my view the Picopresso is good value for money and you can use Rave coffee reward beans towards your purchase. Strongly recommended.”
“Wacaco have made an excellent product, and I am having a lot of fun extracting my espressos! however, some of the parts seem to be sffering quality control - I have had 1 replacement (squeaky pump), which Rave instantly replaced under warranty, 3 rubber lids/covers that do not fit on both picopresso's, and one lid with a loose silicon cover inside. Should this put you off? Absolutley not - for the faulty parts Wacaco sent out replacements from China (within 24-48hrs) at no extra cost, and these arrived .c10 days later.
Excellent aftermarket support and I am very happy with my Pico!”
So happy to hear that you are impressed with the Picopresso! Glad to hear we could replace the parts as needed and that Wacaco could resolve this for you also!
