“I'd been clinging to the same Brown chest protector from 1998 (partly due to a long break from hockey). Given the bruises I got, I decided to "modernise" my gear. I tried a cheaper, Warrior chest protector model earlier this year and it was not for me, BUT this chest protector is. It is worth the money. 1) Mobility (especially in the arms at the elbow bend) was a big concern for me and this definitely moves with me. Still not perfect for women (or those who get hair in their face and want to push it back), but getting there. 2) Ride-up - it stays down. It ties in well with a "fight strap" in the back and a loop in the front to my shorts. 3) Break-in time - I bought it in early December and avoided wearing it for a while as I was worried about this. After yet another massive bruise, I decided to give it a go. I've worn it twice now and can already feel it breaking in. 4) Protection - I can feel the puck in a good way, you know where the puck hit you, but it doesn't hurt. I was late getting to the post and took one in the ribs. It didn't hurt at all. 5) Adjustable - this has loads of adjustment points. 6) Weight - very light weight. 7) Breathability - a number of reviews I read said the Hyperlite traps too much heat. So far I haven't found that. I think it's still open enough at the back and under the arms to let heat escape. What I would say is that it's close to your arms and body in the same way that heat gear is so that may be what people are reacting to. However without that, it wouldn't offer the mobility/flex that it does. 8) Cons - the arms are a bit too long for me, but I'm still making adjustments and hope I can sort this. Might be a bit too long for me (5'4.5"). I think this is a thing a lot of female goalies experience. Short of spending even more for something custom, I'm not sure what can be done. Only other thing is I've found the chin of my mask sometimes gets a bit stuck, but hoping this is another adjustment tweak.”
