“This paint seems like a good product but it has poor coverage compared to hammerite equivalent and we needed twice as much as I expected. My mine gripe though is the colour. It is supposed to be a dark grey but is silver. Does not even bear much resemblance to the colour on the lid that is supposed to represent it either.”

Hello. In regards to the paint, I have asked the factory to send me a tin of the dark grey so I can do a paint out to see the colour for myself. My first comment is have you stirred the tin thoroughly as often I have had this comment and when we stir the tin the colour changes. As for the coverage the manufactures data sheet states that the theoretical coverage for Hammertone is 10m2 per litre on a non-porous surface so a surface like wood will absorb the paint and this will reduce the coverage. One thing to bare in mind is that with an alkyd paint like the Hammertone the thicker the coating the longer it will last so oftener better coverage can mean shorter life expectancy.
