Compared to the 1/2" cutters in the Trend KFP/1 Kitchen Fitters Pack, this TREND 46/301X1/2TC is fantastic. I was shaping a 40mm thick, European Oak worktop for my kitchen island which has two 110mm radius corners and a full-width slow curve at the breakfast bar end; a Kitchen Fitters Pack cutter needed to be nursed around the corners taking backward cuts to reduce spelching at the end of the cuts where the grain was adverse. Under magnification, I could see the TCT tips had become chipped and the edge blunt; resharpening them with Trend products didn’t improve performance. I tweaked the shape of my MDF template so the ball bearing guide could run along it (instead of continuing to use the 30mm guide bush) and fitted this TREND 46/301X1/2TC. What a difference! Using a Trend T11 router with plenty of grunt, I was taking full-depth 40mm cuts from the end grain. Full shavings flew off and drifted in slow motion into a stack on the kitchen floor – and with no sign of wear to the TCT blades. OK, it’s over three times the price of the KPF/1 but it has two bearing guides to help overcome awkward grain direction and delivers the goods seemingly effortlessly. By this stage of the project I had invested time, effort and money in jointing full stave oak planks and fitting pop-up power and pop-up TV. Any router cutter that gave a lousy finish would definitely be off my Christmas card list. Huge quality difference. Hashtag my favourite cutter – well for now.
