Makita SP6000J2 Plunge Cut Saw 165mm inc 2x Guide Rails, Single Joining Bar & Makpac Carry Case
The Makita 165mm Plunge Cut Circular Saw and 1.5m (59”) Guide Rails work together to produce accurate cuts with minimal tear-out. The saw combines a powerful 12 AMP motor and a large cutting capacity with magnesium components for less weight and electronic speed control to maintain constant speed under load for smooth cutting and a splinter-free mirror finish. The SP6000J2 is a more portable option to a table saw for select applications, and it is ideal for use on the jobsite or in a workshop.
Precision Settings and Features for Quality Cuts
The SP6000J2 saw has a bevel capability of -1° to 48° with positive stops at 22.5° and 45°. The saw delivers precise cutting, as the position of the blade enters the material on the same cutting line whether cutting straight or bevel. In addition, the saw has close-to-wall cutting (18mm) for expanded cutting applications. The built-in depth stop allows a preliminary cut of 2mm to be performed before the entire material is cut through for clean and splinter-free cutting.
12 AMP Direct-Drive Power for Smooth Cutting
The SP6000J2 has a powerful 12 AMP motor with soft start for smooth start-ups, and Electronic Speed Control to maintain a constant speed under load for smooth cutting. The variable speed dial control (2,000 – 5,200 RPM) allows the user to set the speed for optimum performance in a variety of materials. The built-in torque limiter helps prevent motor burnout, with an electric brake for added productivity.
Precision Cuts and Ease of Use
The saw includes a range of convenient features, including a large top handle, an electric brake for more productivity, as well as a lock-lever that attaches the saw to the rail system so the saw stays on the anodised aluminium rail when positioned for a bevel cut. The smooth and convenient plunge release lever is designed for operator comfort, and the depth adjustment with large scale is easy to set.
Best in Class for a Range of Applications
The SP6000J2 is engineered for cutting sheet material, finish work, trim work, and remodelling. It is ideal for a broad range of trades, including cabinet installers, cabinet manufacturers, finish carpenters, stair installers, flooring installers, woodworkers, and general contractors seeking a best-in-class 165mm Plunge Circular Saw.

The saw does make a straight cut, and plunge cut as it is supposed to. However mayy other aspects of the saw havve left me wondering if I would be more satisfied with a higher cost manufacturer, or even equally satisfied with a low budget manufacturer. The Makpac case is very difficult to open and close and appears to be similar quality to a case for a Makita drill that I have on which one of the clasps broke soon after purchase. The blow moulded insert for the case is split and doesn't hold the saw whatsoever. It appears to be designed for a router. I have kept a piece of cardboard packing otherwise it would be totally unsecured in the box. The guide rails do not fit together well. Individually they are fine, however one was twisted a little when it arrived and needs to be pressed down for the saw to transit from one to the other. In addition the groves in the guide rails are slightly different guage so that there is a definite bump to overcome when going from one to the other. This also means that when the tracking is set nicely for one rail it is too tight or loose for the other depending which order they are connected. The connection bar system used to connect two rails is a weak point. It may work with 2 x 70cm rails, but with 140cm rails you have to handle them very carefully. Makita and the other manufacturers should have redisigned the way the rails join. The depth of cut scale is not accurate. It cuts about 3mm less than expected.
