Stuttered on initial operation, then ran more or less adequately for twenty minutes before the red thermal LED lit up and it refused to carry on. Left alone for an hour to cool, and fitted with a cool fully charged replacement (genuine) Makita LXT battery, the red LED status resumed within seconds. I tried four genuine known good batteries in all. It was a swelteringly hot day, but the ambient temperature was nowhere near as hot as electric motors are designed to reach in operation. Humidity was high, at around 83%. I was cutting back a mature Beech Hedge, with 2-3 inch thick boughs (often far smaller) and there was also a little Hazelnut and Oak. All of it was green, nothing seasoned at all. In an afternoon this saw achieved around one tenth of what I could have done with a petrol driven saw of the same size. My suspicions are that its 36volt bigger brother is probably a good starting point for a battery chainsaw and that this one is simply too gutless to achieve a great deal.

Looked at various small/pruning category chainsaws and once again Makita was my choice . No gimmicks just excellent design & functionality that deals with those smaller chainsaw jobs . Obviously too soon to comment on durability etc., but I doubt very much that Makita will let me down !

What a great lightweight, manageable chainsaw. It’s proved to be perfect for cutting up branches in my new garden where I’ve got a huge pile of branches that I want to use in a dead hedge. It’s very easy to assemble and use and the safety features mean I feel confident using it. I would definitely recommend if you want a smallish but powerful chainsaw.
