Makita DHP481RTJ Combi Drill 18v LXT inc 2x 5.0Ah Batteries in Makpac Type 3 Case The Makita DHP481 LXT combi drill is powered by an 18v Lithium-ion battery and the brushless motor enables up to twice the run-time of traditional motors. This two-speed drill will run up to 2,100rpm in high gear and 550rpm in low. It will deliver 31,500 impacts per minute in high gear and 8,250 impacts per minute in low gear. The 13mm single sleeve keyless chuck enables 16mm capacity in masonry, 13mm in steel and a massive 76mm in timber. Torque can be adjusted to 21 alternative settings and has a dedicated drilling mode. The DHP481 will generate 60Nm of fastening torque (soft joint) and between 115-125Nm (hard joint), the highest torque yet from the Makita 18v range. There are twin LED job lights with afterglow once the variable speed trigger is released and a new side handle configuration gives light tool control. Coupled with the soft grip ergonomic handle design positive drill-driver capability is assured. It weighs just 2.7kg, and is more compact (20mm shorter) than the previous BHP458 model. This kit comes with 2x 5.0Ah Batteries and Charger packed in a Makpac Type 3 Carry Case with Side Handle and Depth Stop. A great drill with masses of power & torque, simple easy change controls, the chuck looks small but is very easy to use an holds well, slightly heavier than my old Makita drill but far better in every way and helps give it weight behind the power, plenty of battery and the macpac has bags of room for bits and even another power tool the long drill handle is the only thing that has to fit across the pac but you will need this handle to take the drills torque.

I was looking for a cordless drill with a very high torque rating to use on my yacht as a substitute for an electric winch. This make had been recommended as a suitable option amongst other drills. The brushless motor is the key to its size and weight. The advantage of the Makita is the long extension arm which provides all the resistance you need for its massive torque. Without it it will rip the handle from your grip. It is also protected by an overload system. It is also amazingly light and compact for its power and easy to handle. Two batteries with a charger that will charge quickly is perfect for my unusual requirements. For me this is a brilliant piece of kit that does what it says on the box. My criticism would only be that the charger and batteries seem expensive but then I think they are quality pieces of kit, so I hope the batteries will last a long time if looked after properly. Time will tell as I've only had it a fortnight. Overall I am impressed, and it does what I wanted it to do, and it does it well.

Amazing piece of kit , have researched lots of options and wanted something that can handle anything and last a long time. Feels very solid and makes light work of drilling brickwork. Batteries excellent, case solid and loads of room for drill bits etc, Highly Recommended

The extra torque on the DHP481 really stands out from the previous drills I have used. The extra cost of about £50 for the handset when compared with DHP485 is well worth it. The torque on 481 is 60Nm-125NM, compared with torque on DHP485 of 27NM-50NM. The impact on 481 topping 31,500ipm vs 28,500ipm for 485. At the end of the day the cost is in the batteries which bumps up the price. My recommendation if you are on a mega tight budget is to beef up the handset and go for the DHP481 and drop the battery spec from a 5.0AH to a 4.0AH. You don't get paid doing a job if your drill can't handle the material!!! You can always charge a battery or borrow your mate's!!!
