DeWalt DCP580N-XJ 18v XR 82mm Cordless Brushless Planer Body Only
The DeWalt DCP580 is the world’s first 18v brushless, cordless planer. It's a compact and well balanced machine for both horizontal and vertical planing with twin 82mm reversible blades and the power to plane up to 2.0mm in soft wood or 1.0mm in hard wood. There's two 82mm tungsten carbide tipped reversible blades already attached and it has a discreet on-board blade storage area, with integrated torx key for quicker blade changes.
It has a DeWalt XR brushless motor which eliminates wasted energy, maximising the runtime and life of the tool. This innovative new technology pairs a highly efficient brushless motor with a high capacity XR battery, working in tandem to provide maximum output and best-in-class runtime. The DCP580 has enough runtime for a typical day’s work from just one charge of a DeWalt 18v 5Ah XR Li-ion battery, significantly reducing costly downtime and providing end-users with market-leading efficiency.
Supplied here as body only. Batteries and chargers are sold separately.

I have connected a 4.0ah battery to this and it works very well . Very efficient and excellent adjustment I bought the dust bag which fills very quickly (3xpasses). May be much better with extraction unit but I'm only very small business and costs too much Superb planner.

Great tool, powerful and light. My previous planer was Makita DKP180 Which I have used for a couple of years, but decided to swap to Dewalt and could not be happier. Main Plus points Dewalt over Makita *1kg lighter *Brushless motor *Kick stand folds away and stays put - much easier than spring loaded one that was always in the way making it awkward for some cuts *On board blade storage *Dust bag is spring loaded and way better designed (closer to the body, easier in tight situations) instead of a cloth on the plastic strip hanging of the tool *More control *Overall better feel and balance

Excellent device. Even with the battery mounted, always a challenge, the device feels comfortable in the hand. Whilst I love it, there are two potential issues that people need to be aware of. Firstly, when the battery starts to lose power I found it tends to chew up the wood. Not sure why this happens but I am guessing it's because of uneven rotation and the device's inability to power through. Secondly, it burns through batteries pretty quickly. Go for the 18V 5AH ones and make sure you have a few (the recharge time is around 90minutes for these) and you will need to cycle them if you are likely to spend any serious time planing. Saying that, I am very pleased with the device. It makes light work of what is normally hard work. Although I cannot comment on how well it will function on hard woods, it does a great job on pine.

The planer is perfect but I am not happy that the black grub screw which covers the spare blades was not on the item. When I contacted the vendor I was told that it’s not fitted to there bare units. This is strange as when I purchased one from screwfix to check they were not fobbing me off, I found that the grub screw was on there bare unit. If I hadn’t already used the item from the vendor I would have returned it.
