First class power tools - light and easy to use with excellent battery life. A long overdue addition to my DIY tools - and now undoubtedly the best!

I am an odd-jobs person. I bought this DeWalt drill/impact combo kit as it seemed good value with the tough case and 2x 5Ah batteries. The DCD996 drill is mega. It has more torque than some corded drills I've used. The chuck is probably the best I've encountered. It does require doing up tighter than you might think as bits still slip. The 3 speed gearbox is very welcome. Shifting between the gears sometimes requires a bit of finesse as it is possible to be in a false neutral. The 3 mode light is also very welcome and useful. I did not think I'd need the hammer function, however, when using step drills in steel, it is my preferred mode. I sometimes use this drill to drive screws if the impact is not to hand. Its not great as it'll either cam out or just twist the head off the screw. I this circumstance it tnd to use the lowest gear and the hammer mode. The "e-clutch" is not as effective as it might be. On occasion, when a drill bit has broken through or cut deep, the drill body has spun round and hurt my wrists. There is a handle that comes with the drill but I work in confined spaces. The DCF887 Impact driver is also very good. I have not had much opportunity to use this as my work tends to be more fabrication. It is on loan to my brother who is a joiner. It is leagues ahead of his previous "Guild" impact driver. It is very light. Even with its 3 ring LED, the illumination isn't especially special. I have used this for doing up jubilee clips in an engine bay. The adjustable torque setting works well. This does not really have the oomph to undo automotive fasteners, even smaller ones. It's not really intended for this but I tried it anyway. The battery charger is the cheaper 4 Amp version. It charges pretty slowly and gets very hot when charging. I leave it at work and charge my batteries overnight. The 8 Amp version (the yellow one) is a significant upgrade. The 5Ah batteries aren't much heavier than the 4Ah ones, or much larger. The 5Ah one doesn't seem to noticeably last longer or give any power boost over the 4Ah version. I use them interchangeably on the drill and my DeWalt 1/2" impact. The "Tough" box is cool. it has a hidden tray in the lid for screws, sandwich, bits, chewy, whatever... It clips into other tough boxes and there are various accessories like van racking and "magliner" style trolley you can get. Overall, very happy with this kit. If you already have the batteries, it's cheaper to buy the bare body tools. I didn't because I wanted the batteries and tough box.

The kit seems fine at the moment but the customer service department needs educating on customer services. Will not recommend or deal with company again!

Much more powerful than my previous drill driver. I have used it a few times and the hammer drill was as powerful as my mains drill but not my see drill. Never owned an impact driver before but found it useful and works well for undoing/ doing nuts, bolts and screws.
