The Abbots Barton hotel is ideally situated for central Canterbury, easy walking distance. There is plenty of free parking on site. Our room had been newly refurbished and was modern, scrupulously clean and very spacious. The bathroom was excellent, the shower fantastic, Bath comfortable and there was lashings of hot water. The downside was the food, although the breakfast was fine. The menu was uninspiring. My steak was tough, they ran out of chips on Sunday and as most things came with them, that was a bit of a problem. I drink milk and could only gave a very small glass on Monday morning as they had run out of that too. However, the rest of the time there was plenty. As there are so many fine restaurants in Canterbury, we chose to eat there, so we were happy all round. Our animals were made to ffeel extremely welcome. We would definitely stay there again and look forward to seeing the rest of the refurbishments. What they've done so far is excellent, although just a little more light in the bar area would be welcome, had to use our torch to read the menu.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Brilliant location and good parking.
A very lovely old building and the staff were very friendly. The only down side is you can’t take the dog into the restaurant so you have to eat in the bar which is a bit of a walk from the restaurant. You have to make a couple of journeys to get your breakfast as you can’t carry your drinks and breakfast in one go. Also they are refurbishing the hotel so the lift was out of action and parts were closed off.

The room we stayed in was very nice , they treated the dogs well , my only complaint is that at breakfast we had to eat in the bar because of the dogs which ment we had to keep going back and forwards between the bar and restaurant if your paying for the dogs to stay I believe they should be able to eat with you , I do agree that if you decide to eat in the evening or dinner time this is acceptable but not when breakfast is included.
