Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? We nearly only gave two stars but were aware of how hard the bar, breakfast and food service staff were working. It was also apparent that some were being trained and were trying very hard.
The staff were friendly and the room nicely decorated and styled. The evening food menu was good but on the first evening it took three attempts to choose an item that wasn't unavailable. The hot water in the room went to stone cold at 11pm approx and came on at 6.20am. Not much good for a late night wash or early shower before dog walk! Although the biscuits and tea bags etc are replaced every day and the bed made, there didn't appear to be any actual cleaning and the towels could not be dried as the heated rail was permanently off. When we enquired about replacement drinking water (2 cans there on arrival);we were told they were complementary on first day "but you could buy a bottle" . Is the water more expensive than tea bags and biscuits. The terrace is NOT secure for a dog. It has a partial trellis type divider separating the four rooms which open onto it which has a space along the terrace allowing access to any of the rooms. We made a small barrier out of terrace furniture to fill the gap! The swimming pool fire escape door opens onto our bit of the terrace so I understand you can't permanently block the access along the terrace past the other rooms, but the flimsy trellis could be extended surely? Pets pyjamas say their hotels provide comfy beds and doggy treats - this hotel's website says 'no' but fortunately we had Ben's stuff with us. Just the other side of the wall at the bottom of our terrace section is a well used footpath and a public car park - at times noisy. There were small fragments of green glass ((beer bottle?) in the gravel on our terrace- not good for dog paws. Sorry to have to say this but although generally this is a beautifully located premises with nice staff and good main meal food, in our opinion there needs to be a significant improvement in housekeeping and pet friendliness for us to describe it as a hotel.

Lilith has enjoyed several stays with Pets Pajamas and has always been spoilt but unfortunately, The Royal Lion, did not quite meet our expectations. This time there was nothing for her, no bed, luxury or otherwise, no treats, food bowl or water bowl. No breakfast sausage. Luckily we had taken her essentials. When I came to check out the receptionist firstly tried to charge for Lilith and I had to keep mentioning that we had booked through you both at check-in and check out. The checkout process was disorganised as I was told I owed nothing. I had to say that we must have owed something for the food. Eventually it was established that I had not paid for the food and drinks. It just seemed hit and miss because I was then asked if the price I paid through you seemed correct when it was taken off the bill. I didn't receive an itemized bill and again was asked if the final amount seemed correct. I could have just left without paying had I not been honest. The whole stay was not what we had experienced in other hotels booked through you hence the rating.

Very dog friendly. We stayed in the room with a terrace which was great for Betsy our cross cocker/basset. Perfect for the town and walkabout. Breakfast for dog owners was in the bar and worked fine. Dog was free and free parking which was a great deal.

Old Pub just off of the sea front where the food was good and Staff excellent but we particularly liked the pool area with sauna & jacuzzi which we could book so that we had the entire complex to ourselves

The hotel was lovely and the staff were friendly and helpful. Our ground floor room with a little outside space with table and chairs was perfect for us and our greyhound. The room itself was very nicely and I think, recently, decorated. Could have done with a door mat for wet paws. Also there was no mat provided to put dog bowls on. Luckily we'd brought a plastic mat to put down and we had an old towel to use as a door mat. The swimming pool was fantastic. There was a booking system in operation so you could book your 40 minute swimming slot and your family group had exclusive use of the pool, sauna and jacuzzi. Breakfast was OK. A small buffet selection then a choice of hot food. Dogs only allowed in the bar area, not in the breakfast room so we had to leave her in our room while we had breakfast. She was fine being left for an hour but others might not be so happy to be left. No dog bed provided, or water bowl in our room which other 'Pets Pyjama' hotels have provided - again we'd brought our own. Also there was no fridge in the room so nowhere cool to put her food or chill a bottle of wine for us! Overall I would recommend the hotel. It's right in the centre of Lyme Regis and close to the beaches and a large park.
