Luna was welcomed on arrival with a gift. The room was big enough for Luna to play. The grounds are full of rabbits and sheep. We had a walk around the lake which was very relaxing. The reason for giving 4* is a lack of attention from the staff in the restaurant. It was that bad that we drove to Oakham for a dinner the second night.

When we arrived at Rutland Hall at 2:00pm (Check in time given on confirmation email) my Husband was abruptly turned away and told check in at 3:00pm. We then saw more and more people coming from reception with Maps heading to their rooms. I decided to go back in to ask why we couldn’t but as soon as I gave our surname on the booking I was able to check in straight away - If I hadn’t gone back in we would have been waiting a further hour. When checking in I was encorouged to do a Ā£50 pre auth for the restaurant (I declined as we had not spoke about our plans yet) to then be told the restaurant is fully booked and we would have to eat/drink off site. The parking is an absolute nightmare, if you are staying in the hotel itself pack lightly as we were left (with no help) to carry all our belongings aswell as our dog (dog crate, food etc). Once we had arrived at our room we then discovered that we had a garden view when we paid for a Lake view room specifically - we did not mention anything or complain as we had to make several trips to and from the car with our things and it was too much hassle. There was a nice welcome package for our dog however the treats inside contain Rawhide - something to be wary of if your dog does not eat this. We found small shards of glass in our ā€˜dog friendly room. The hair dryer in the room did not work- tried multiple plug sockets. Also to mention there were 2 ladies working on reception, the lady helping us was quite clearly new and the other lady was very rude and abrupt towards her which made the process really uncomfortable. Overall the room itself was lovely and clean and the grounds around the hotel but I would not spend that kind of money again for the stay.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? The room was way to hot for dogs. I know the weather can't be controlled but there was no Airconn.
All the staff were welcoming and helpful. Absolutely the best. However, I feel this hotel is only somewhat dog friendly. The room we had was accessed by an open metal stairway. None of our dogs would even attempt an open stairway. Lifting greyhounds is no easy feat. Coming down was possible but being metal, one of our hounds caught her leg nesseciating a trip to the Oakham vet . Seven staples later we continued on our holiday. So maybe some rooms are suitable for some dogs ....

We loved it, the room we booked (King Double) was pristine with plenty of space for us and our two dogs. There's plenty of space around to walk, with access straight down to the water - with leisure spots within easy reach. The restaurant food was top notch with friendly staff all happy to accommodate us all. It's on the list of places we'd love to visit again!

My wife and I stayed here with our dog for two nights in January. We were made to feel welcome by the Rutland Hall team and had a very comfortable and enjoyable time. The restaurant and bar were also good and the food was well presented and tasty. Highly recommended!
