When we arrived we commented on the lovely location and how nice the barns looked from the outside. The barns are also nice on the inside, but the build clearly took longer than anticipated and they are completely unfinished, and should not have been let out until they were! The kitchen and utility room are nicely done, however the worktops were dirty, there were no instructions to use the appliances, and we found a takeaway rice in the oven and a box of cakes in the cupboard. The beds are not super king as advertised, they are a small king at best. There is no electric vehicle charging point, on site gym, or underfloor heating as advertised. The only heating is by fan heaters which are noisy and mean one person has to get up in the cold to turn them all on. Due to this, the tile floor was freezing! The television is a smart tv only. There is no tv reception and you cannot connect a device to watch tv, so make sure you have plenty on your Netflix and Amazon watchlists before you go! All lights with the exception of the bedroom lights are automatic movement activated. This is an unnecessary and annoying gimmick! We didn’t want the main kitchen lights on whilst trying to watch a film on a dark evening, so had to put a sticker over the sensor. The lights in the downstairs en-suite stayed on for a total of 7 seconds, which meant we mainly showered and used the toilet in the dark! There are no window coverings on the sitting room doors or the huge window in the hallway, which although there shouldn’t be anyone else around, still made you feel quite exposed. There isn’t enough storage in bathrooms or bedrooms. The downstairs bedroom had a tiny set of drawers and a corner rail to hang a few items. The bathroom had a tiny under sink cupboard. There wasn’t anywhere to store many toiletries, or places to hang your towel whilst getting a shower (in the dark!). The mirrors were mismatched, one bathroom has a mirror the size of a dinner plate, another has a giant mirror with a light and shaver socket! There was still a lot of dust around, including dust bunnies under the bed, and a lot of areas still had tile grout all over the floor. There is no vacuum cleaner in the property, and only the smallest over door clothes airer. There is a tumble dryer which is a lovely addition, but not everything can be tumbled and therefore took forever to dry due to the poor heating. On the plus side, our hot tub (which is a wonderful addition!) stopped working on the first morning. Someone was down within 10 minutes and by the time we got home from our day out it was working and back up to temperature. The cottage is really well located and will be beautiful in the future with quite a lot of improvements!
