“We've just come back from a week stay at Boot Cottage. For us, the cottage was almost perfect and did exactly what we needed. We planned a week of walking with the dog in and around the area, and this provided a good location to do that (car was definitely needed). The house was clean and tidy...but not too clean/sterile which was good as we have a husky who was moulting so we were concerned he would be too big or too hairy for the place but he wasn't. The back yard is better and more secure than it looks in the pics which was a relief, however the back decked area is extremely slippery and caused a few near misses of falls so I wouldn't want to spend anytime out the back (fortunately October weather meant we couldn't if we wanted to). You also can't park directly outside the house, so parking is just down the road (like 20 metres away and you can unload outside and then move your vehicle - the neighbour will remind you of this if you stay too long) so then parking becomes onstreet parking - it's a surprisingly busy road for the area but is in a 30 mph zone so reasonably low risk. There is nothing in Kirkinner except houses and fields and one small old style grocer who opens for roughly 2 hours a day. The nearest town is Wigtown about 3 miles away. It was close to 5 stars but the decking and the parking impacted it slightly.”
