Did you and your dog receive a warm welcome? yes
Did you feel your stay was good value for money? no
The cottage was well situated close to both Windermere town centre and Bowness town centre. Easy 10 minute walk in both directions. The house was well decorated, and looked like images provided. Upstairs was particularly nice, with a simple design. The downstairs of the house, and attic bathroom however appeared to be only superficially clean. There was a fair amount of dust, and the soft furnishings did not feel fresh. Some items in kitchen cupboards were not clean. Old water bottles and other items found under couch and in one of the bedroom bins. Windows both inside and outside house were not clean. We had to clean up ourselves. Overall, it was a very comfortable stay however would note that a throughout deep clean is necessary after each guest. Would also note that a pole to open sunlight in attic room would have been helpful as it gets very hot, and some of the sash windows did not appear to lock fully and could be opened from the outside. This is a worry if you plan to leave your dog one evening. There was also no front gate that could be closed for extra safety when staying with a dog. The garden was not very thoughtful with weeds coming through and the flags appeared dirty. A more comfortable seating area would have been nice, and the addition of a bbq. Would also note that the walls in back yard where fairly low, and potentially a larger dog could get over these. Wouldn’t leave the dog unaccompanied. The house next-door was derelict and there was a distinct smell of filth coming out of house which was particularly evident when opening the living room window or sitting in the garden. This made it quite unpleasant to sit in the garden. I’d say that this was our main area of concern during our stay as it appeared unsafe, unsanitary and it was unsightly. We did have a lovely stay, thank you, but I’m not sure for the price it was value for money. However with a few more thoughtful additions the cottage would be beautiful.
