My partner, our dog & I stayed in Captains Cottage for few days end November-beginning of December. What a lovely place! Looks small from outside, yet deceptive as we were surprised with how much space there was inside. It was spotless & very tidy. The lounge area has two different sofas now to that in the photos (which I had read reviews about them being worn). The log burner in the lounge is a monster and perfect after that cold brisk walk on the beach. I’d recommend you take plenty of logs with you, the burner goes through them quickly! The kitchen had everything we needed and there was dishwasher tablets under the sink . The bathroom was clean, shower a bit rubbish as low water pressure but the huge roll top bath made up for it! The bedrooms were spacious, we only used one bedroom as only two of us. The yard outside was securely fenced in and happy our big Weimaraner couldn’t scale the fence or wall & take himself off to the beach (which is literally just yards away - perfect!). Allonby itself - there was little to do other than walk along the beach & relax so if you’re looking for a bustling town with lots of shops/pubs, this isn’t it. One tip:- check the opening times of the pubs mentioned (Jack’s bar was closed Mondays & Tuesdays and did not accept dogs) and The Ship was only open on our last night (dog friendly). We appreciate it was out of season so if you’re willing to drive 10 minutes to next village of Mawbray, we found a lovely dog friendly pub called The Lowthers Arms (owned & run by locals) where the food was fabulous! Maryport only a short drive, lovely little town with lots of history & information dotted about. Nicely lit up with Christmas lights too, very festive. There is a Lidl in Maryport which is handy for logs. In all, a lovely getaway and a perfect relaxing stay - thank you ☺️.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? We really enjoyed our stay at this cottage. The boiler was fixed promply when the pressure dropped leaving us with no hot water except from the electric shower. This was not an over £1000 cottage but I would have considered it good value for money at abou
Captains Cottage is in a fantastic location just a few yards walk from a beautiful, secluded sandy beach. The cafe opposite was very dog friendly with brilliant food and service. We did not use the pub as three dogs was one too many for them. Having read previous reviews we took lots of cleaning materials with us that we made good use of as the cottage looked superficially clean but lacked attention to detail. We did not leave anything for the cleaners to do so the next people to stay will find it spotless. The lounge, kitchen and dining room are accomodated in one large room but good use is made of the relatively small space . The larger of the two double bedrooms is a good size and the bed was reasonably comfortable . The bathroom contained a walk in shower and a bath that I enjoyed. This cottage is not dog friendly. All floors are laminated, which creates a slipping hazard for them, and dogs are not allowed to sit or walk on the single cheap rug provided! Some turtle mats would solve this problem as they are attractive, non slip and washable. I recommend that you bring slippers and your own towels as the ones provided were small, grey and of poor quality. The outside area is secure but comprised entirely of paving and gravel with no grass. The raised deck with a sea view is a nice touch but the metal table was too rickety to eat on. There were a few nice touches in the cottage like pictures of coastal scenes.
