“We just needed somewhere to stay while seeing family in Durham so we didn't really do much exploring nor did we try any food. Positives: Clean bedding, option for room service, staff seemed friendly, decent consumables, easy access to river for walks, convenient parking in the courtyard. Negatives: Lack of sound proofing (particularly the luggage store/kennel cubby which had a paper thin walls and the location and shape amplified corridor noise - not great for light sleepers if your neighbours come and go a lot!). Stained/dirty carpet in need of a good clean (our dog went round and round discovering all the "interesting" previous residents), tired decor/amateur DIY, bizarre bathroom layout meaning anyone over 5'9" needed to duck to shower. It felt like the room didn't meet the higher standards of the rest of the hotel so they made it dog friendly to generate a bit of extra cash. I believe the usual rate if you go direct is £15/night/dog... Perhaps they should spend some of that on cleaning and a bit of TLC! To be fair it's possible we got the worst room in the hotel but we weren't there long enough to quibble - downstairs rooms might have been better laid out. FYI dogs aren't allowed anywhere you can eat or drink (except in your room) this wasn't an issue for us but could be for some. I don't fault them for this...it is a castle after all!”

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Bed/Breakfast and Dinner, doesn't actually pay for your dinner, it just gets you a reservation, so please be aware that you will be required to pay for your evening meal.

“We were a little apprehensive about staying here after booking through PetsPyjamas after receiving an email from Lumley Castle with strick rules and regulations to adhere to if staying with a pet. To be honest, it made the place out to be the complete opposite of a pet friendly hotel. However, after staying here we couldn't have been more wrong, yes there are restrictions on where your pet is allowed, but this is similar to a number of places we've visited/stayed and an exception here is that you're in a Castle. Staff were brilliant and friendly. The room was great, bed extra comfy. The Castle grounds have a great walk between a couple of bridges, but make sure you take suitable footwear for hiking close to a stream. Can't fault the place at all, would definitely recommend.”
