“More lowlights than highlights. The gate lodge we stayed in was very nice apart from the wonky toilet seat and no instructions for the sauna| steam room. And no treats, bowl,bed etc for our little dog! The staff lacked guidance and motivation which resulted in very poor service particularly in the bar and at breakfast. The food in general was not up to Michel Roux standard.”

“The hotel itself, the gardens, the staff and the food are all excellent. Rather disappointingly there are no inside public areas where dogs are allowed. We were forced to either sit outside or in the bedroom if we wanted our dog with us. Thankfully on this occasion the weather was reasonable. I fully understand not allowing dogs in the restaurant. However I would have expected an establishment advertising a dog-friendly short break to reserve a lounge or bar area where we could sit with our pet.”

“The staff always know where you are, who you are and when your next meal or drink is going to be. Very seamless experience. They were friendly to the dog although weren’t clear where he was and was not allowed. Excellent food and drinks although drinks are very heavily marked up. Room was clean, well equipped and with very comfortable soft furnishings. I was disappointed that my one request of a room with a bath tub was not satisfied given ours was the only room without one. The grounds are pleasant enough to walk the dog around although not particularly expansive so don’t imagine yourself having a long walk. Overall great experience made by their approach to making you at home, comfortable accommodation and tasty food and drinks.”
