What an excellent mini break we had at a the Archangel. Friendly staff and excellent service. As this was our first break for 2 years we were initially a little anxious. There was no need . The archangel has lots of nooks and crannies where you can sip one of their excellent cocktails. The room was perfect for us and our Jack Russell Merrin. She particularly loved the morning fuss and sausage!

Firstly, I think it’s important to note that the Archangel is not a hotel. It is grouped with hotels on PetsPyjamas for booking purposes but it markets itself as a “restaurant and bar with rooms”. This is an important distinction and probably would have influenced my decision had I noticed it before. While “dog friendly” in the sense that dogs are allowed, the room I was in on the other side of the courtyard was only accessible by a narrow spiral metal staircase which was not very dog friendly, particularly in the damp mornings or one rainy afternoon when it was very slippery. There are also outside tables situated very close to the staircase which made it more difficult to access when there were pub patrons sitting there. This also made it feel like a bit of a public parade any time leaving and returning to the room, which I had to do multiple times to take the dogs out for a wee. When I signed up to PetsPyjamas, I had to give information about each of my dogs and I clearly stated that one of them is 13 - something I think probably should be taken into consideration when advertising the standard double room at the Archangel for the metal spiral staircase alone, never mind the walk from the far back of the courtyard to the street every time he needs to toilet. The room itself was a fine size for us, if very dark due to only one of the two windows being transparent glass, both of which face onto a tight alley which doesn’t let in a huge amount of light. The room was also inexplicably very hot despite turning the radiator off at the wall and opening that one window. In October. I had also requested pet beds, which was mentioned both via email from my PetsPyjamas rep and when I got to the Archangel, but did not receive any. The staff were friendly but not super attentive, I don't know whether this was due to short staffing issues or not, but the atmosphere and attention was definitely more that of a pub than a hotel.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Room 1 is brilliant. Room 3 is not big enough if you have a dog with you.
Things didn't go well to start with. The Archangel is on the corner of a narrow side street, no parking and doesn't look very inviting from the outside. The room we were shown had the WOW factor but as we were walking in the rain with our lab after unpacking we had misgivings about the size. On our return, we asked Tia if they had a larger room available. They did, and double wow factor it was too. This is not an ideal location for dog owners. A paved courtyard, no garden. Only a short walk to lovely walking spots but we would have preferred something a little closer for her last late night walk. However, this is a beautiful, fascinating, quirky establishment with kind, warm, welcoming staff who made us all feel very comfortable and at home. So thank you all the staff, GM Wayne, Tia, Luke, Jill and all the others plus a huge thank you to the wonderful Chef who made me a special salad on our first night as I was still feeling queasy from the journey. That's the type of place this is, going the extra mile to make sure our stay was memorable. Oh and Frome! If you are interested in history and love a beautiful medieval town, Frome is definitely for you. Thank you all at Archangel.

Would you like to add any more feedback about your stay? Although the stay was lovely, I do think £300+ for essentially a bed & breakfast was very expensive. I think it could have been at least £70 less
2A, 1C and 1Dog. We stayed in room number 6 and what a stay it was. Beautiful immaculate room and breakfast was spot on. Staff were amazing too - couldn’t do enough for us! Dinner, Breakfast and Drinks were all fabulous- can’t fault them at all!! (Excellent cocktails) Only minor criticism is that although the room has many lights, it could have done with stronger illumination at the main mirror. I struggled to do my makeup
