Did you and your dog receive a warm welcome? Yes
Did you feel your stay was good value for money? Yes
We enjoyed our stay at the Morritt. The hotel is on a quiet stretch of road with a lane a short walk away so we could easily exercise our dogs. The hotel was very nice, and the staff frienldly, though I think they were short staffed, and some of the staff were new. All were very helpful and we really enjoyed our stay. We had a nice room. The dogs were welcome at the hotel, but our evening meal and breakfast needed to be in the bar area because dogs are not allowed in the restaurant area. We would happily return if we are in the area again. Our meals were very good, and we felt good value.

We had a great stay at The Morritt Hotel. Very welcoming from staff as we got there quite late due to traffic and they placed a quick order of food through to the pub for us while we unpacked the car. If you are staying there for countryside walks this is a great place to base yourself at as we thoroughly enjoyed the walks they had to offer with exploring castles and waterfalls. We would stay here again when back up this side of the woods to do some more exploring.

It was very difficult to find somewhere for the dates we were travelling on pets pyjamas, the height of the season and with folks continuing to have holidays in the UK. Morritt Hotel was actually an inn/arms and is on a main road but thankfully not on a busy road. They have a very nice garden to the left hand side with a couple of tables to sit outside. It is also a wedding venue but we were staying on a sunday night. It is not far from barnard castle and surrounding area. This is advertised as a spa hotel, it is not it is next door in what used to be a garage and you have to pay £35 for a 3 hr slot. No robes provided to be able to walk from the hotel to the spa. This is advertised as a 4 star it is not in my opinion. We booked 2 bedrooms for 2 people and 2 dogs between us. No warm welcome from hotel staff, no pets pyjamas package, no dog bed and no dog treat. There was clearly tension in air amongst staff and lots of side talking and comments about each other. Not what we expected. The Dickens bar/bistro is divided by the bar itself but you can walk in between. Frequented also by locals. A limited menu but food was good. Service was something else. We had to assist in opening a bottle of wine for another guest as the staff did not know how to open it - taking the foil off and uncorking the wine! One staff did not know how to pronounce our dish and they were english! A good selection for breakfast although several items were dried out. Two very different bedrooms one on the 2nd floor - good for keeping your steps up and had been modernised with walk in shower! the other on the first floor that backed on to what look like staff accommodation and for which street light was on all night so even with a flimsy black out blind and very thin curtains no sleep was what due to the lights shining in all night. The room itself clean but looked as if nothing had been done to it since the 70s. The next monring some work was being done to replace the door to the bedroom. Pillows need to be refreshed as flat as pancakes and I don't mean the fluffy kind! Shower was over the bath type and quite high to step into the bath. Very scarce staff, only one person taking orders for breakfast for a pretty full dining room although she worked very efficiently. There seemed to be more staff around on Monday to service the bedrooms. Your only choices are to eat in the bistro/bar unless you want a journey to other areas. Interesting history on Charles Dickens - Nicholas Nickleby which is depicted in the bistro. We did mention our dissatisfaction and were offered a discount and a conversation with the general manager. We had already pre-paid and as there was no general manager available on a Sunday, it seemed pointless after the fact. There was no apology that our stay had been less than what we were expecting. We were certainly not made to feel welcome guests and the standard of the bedrooms are very varied and the condition of the hotel itself needs upgrading. Very disappointed overall.

A disappointing trip. The hotel itself is ok, the room was spacious and clean, although the bathroom was a bit dated. But this was not what we found disappointing. Firstly, this is advertised as a spa hotel. It is not. If you want to use the hot tubs or sauna, which are in a separate building next door, you have to pay £35 per person and you get a 3 hour slot in which you can do this. Only one of the 3 hot tubs worked. Our room was on the first floor at the very far end of a long corridor- really really inconvenient for taking the dog out. We addressed this and to be fair the staff were understanding and allowed us to use the fire exit for dog toilet trips. But as you can imagine, not ideal and no dog waste bins to be seen anywhere. There was no dog bed or water bowl in our room, and would appear pets pyjamas have stopped sending a welcome gift/pack which I was hoping for on arrival. As we were leaving, we were presented with a bill. I explained this has already been paid for through pets pyjamas, but was curious why the bill I was given was £10 less than what we paid. I was told it’s because we have booked through a third party. So I see no benefit booking through pets pyjamas in the future, as it costs us more than booking directly with no benefits. We have booked many trips though PP before and in my honest opinion, the standard has dropped dramatically over the last few years.
