“First used this product about three years ago on two of the external walls to the downstairs rooms where the DPC had been compromised and the effects were showing through. Applied two coats to halfway point up the wall, ensuring a good margin over the damp areas. Painted over, all`s been good since. A similar problem has just occured in another part of the house, so, I`m confident that Permaguard will fix it. The slight odour of plastic when initially applying the product is somewhat reassuring that this is good stuff, and it`s going to do the job. Cheers, Tim.”

“This is a review for the Permaseal Version. First impressions are very good. Delivery was very prompt, ordered one day and delivered the next.As for the paint it is easy to use with a good brush and has pretty good pigment density. It is quite thick as it needs to be and coverage is good. It is being used in a basement which has some quite damp areas and it will be interesting to see how effective it is with time. So far so good. My only minor quibble is that the paint lid is quite difficult to remove. Despite that I have ordered some more so that should serve as a recommendation.”

“Bought for some areas of a very old building, Permaseal Damp Proof paint was easy to apply and later to paint over. So far it appears to have been the solution to the problem we had.”

“I may not have applied it thickly enough, but I found it didnt go on very well, and the finish after two coats (applied at right angles as directed) was still streaky and slightly transluscent, so i had to go over it again with some Dulux One Coat.”

Thank you for your feedback, Dan. We’re sorry to hear the finish didn’t meet your expectations. From your description, it sounds like the coating may not have been applied at the required thickness. PermaSEAL Damp Proof Paint is designed to form a waterproof membrane, and to achieve this it needs to be applied at a specific coverage rate (1 litre per m² over two coats). If the product is spread too thinly, it can appear streaky or slightly translucent and won’t build up the full protective film. Surface condition can also play a part. Highly porous or uneven backgrounds can absorb more product than expected, which may require additional material to achieve a consistent finish.
