“I selected the Liam when looking for a black toe cap oxford with a durable rubber sole for travel and wet weather. The Barker 443 last in G width works well for my foot--ample toe box and not too large in the heel. I quite like Barker's rubber soles; they're a good combination of low-profile smartness, flexibility, traction, and hardiness. Need to jog on cobblestones to make a train? These are ideal. Compared to Barker derbies with the 443 last, this oxford fits a little more tightly in the forefoot and about the same in the midfoot and heel. The calf leather is fine, not too stiff or too soft, and polishes up pretty nicely. I'm thinking of waterproofing, which of course will create a more matte finish, and that suits the style of this shoe also. It's not a statement shoe, though it certainly has a more tapered modern toe than American standards like the Allen Edmonds Park Avenue. It's basically contemporary and low key.”
