“As with a lot of other Barker shoes, perhaps especially G width, sizing is quite generous--more than a half size larger than most other heritage shoe brands. At least this has been my experience so far; not a complaint, just an observation. This particular shoe is relatively snug in the heel with a generous forefoot--just what I need for my "combination feet"--and has a traditional but smart appearance. Very soft and comfortable leather, will be a pleasure to care for--though with a softer cream polish, most likely, since I don't see polishes with a high wax content working well for leather this soft. Ankle/arch support is decent but could be a bit more robust. Breaks in quickly and, thus far, good for walking. The leather sole is relatively thin and I do worry a bit about long-term wear. I note also this shoe is really only for dry conditions; despite the Goodyear welt, it does not keep water out at all at the welt, and the leather itself is also easily saturated. Waterproofing might help with the latter, but thanks to the porous welt, I simply wouldn't expect my feet to stay dry in even a little rain. Other than that, a quality shoe. Dresses up or down easily and, again, comfortable and reasonably supportive.”
