Continuing where volume 1 left off, this high quality production has a preface by SJ Zaloga no less. With a very datailed chapter on Panthers covering nearly half of the book. Not just photos, but informative captions and occasional photos of original documents, and monthly tank strength reports of 1st Bttn, 4th Panther Regiment. There is even a couple of pages on Bergepanthers. There follows a chapter on Marder II and III. Documents include 19th LW Division Kriegsgliederung July 1944, and 10th Army anti-tank assets Sept 1944, a complete list of all units using Marders in Italy, all gold mine material for TOE collectors. The next chapters covers the 15cm sIG33 Grille, and a varied assortment of towed artillery, from 2.8cm sPzB41 to 28cm railway guns, including rare 4.2cm PAK41. Finally 9 pages of colour profiles. Many of the photos are not just wrecks, but include in action (or near action) shots, and guns being towed by horse limbers. So not one just for panzer fans, but artillery enthusiasts as well. A superb book on an oft-neglected theatre, it's value increased by the fact that it's not just covering mainstream tanks, but the more unusual Marders, sIG SPs and towed guns.

In volume 1 they gave an overview of German vehicles involved in the Italian campaign. Starting with Volume 2, and all subsequent volumes, the focus will be upon a particular vehicles, for example Pz.Kpfw IV, Tigers etc. The focus then of Volume 2 is the Panther, the later part of the book looking at Marder I and II, followed by chapters on Grille, Field and heavy artillery’s and finally towed AT artillery. IMO the book is simply superb! Lots of B&W photographs, many I’ve not seen before, sometimes with multiple pictures of the same vehicle. Well written and informative captions are excellent. Finally there are several pages of colour profiles showing selected vehicles shown in the books photos. As an AFV modeller this is just the sort of book I like. As a Panther fan I am really pleased I bought this one, based upon which I shall also buy each of the subsequent volumes.

With the photos, the book gives a good overview of the deployment of the various german armored forces. There are still unknown photos in the book for me. The quality of the photos is very good. I would buy it again
