ENGLISH The book „Bloody Vienna” contains very extensive and detailed reports of the last year of World War II in the regions of Western Hungary, Vienna and the East of Austria. Equipped with mostly large-format photos, some of which were previously unknown to me, this work is particularly recommended for those who are interested in history and AFV model building enthusiasts, who are focused on the last days of fighting on the Eastern Front. Another plus are the clear structure and the excellently researched content, which are easy to understand, even for readers with limited knowledge of English.

I very much enjoyed reading this book; Vienna made for an interesting visit a few years back, I visited a military bookshop where the assistant informed me that Vienna was the primary route for the withdrawal of the well-known divisions from the East. I had seen images of Das Reich in the vicinity of the Floridsdorf Bridge which I had to visit! As a consequence, I bought Bloody Vienna as soon as it came out, the informed commentary on the vehicles plus the personal input from veterans of both sides ensured this was far from a dry and dusty read. I have a few Peko publications which have been very informative and well illustrated which is why I was happy to obtain Bloody Vienna sight unseen, I was not disappointed.

Rare photographs and interesting text (seems to be: not yet read) - A bit poor for maps

The Soviet offensive through Hungary to Vienna is often overshadowed by the drive straight to Berlin so it's good to have a book covering it. The text is readable and offers insights into the opposing armies, and the photographs are an interesting set. As usual more maps would be appreciated. Recommended.

Kamen's books are always well-researched and this is no exception. The big surprise is that this is far more than a picture book - there's a lot of text, including numerous accounts not readily available in English.
