Books like Nurnberg's Panzer Factory are invaluable for amateur historians like me when they bring to light largely unknown gems of information that counter commonly republished "facts". One of these concerns engineer Otto Merker, who had a large hand in developing sloping armour plates and double torsion bar suspension. Most histories give the credit to the Russians for sloped armour, however it appears they clearly recognised its value when Merker's vehicles were secretly tested in the Soviet Union before the start of World War II. It became fashionable after the war to downgrade the effect of the Allied bombing campaign, especially by the RAF. However, the book makes it clear that while the raids on the MAN factory earlier in the war had little to moderate effect, a major RAF raid in January 1945 wiped out significant Panther production for the rest of the war. It's a detail that doesn't appear in books decrying the RAF's contribution. Images throughout the book are clear and sharp, and are the type of pictures that are so interesting that you look into them rather than just glance at them because the detail is so absorbing.

Good book with nice and very sharp pictures. It begins with trucks and cars and goes to the Panther as last, with very beautifull interior pictures of a Panther Ausf. G

Nurnberg's Panzer Factory, is an outstanding book ! Set up in a landscape format, most if not all photographs are large, and crisp in detail. Text, and captions included with each photo, are well written, and researched. Subject ranges from pre-war, to the end of WWII in 1945. Not only are all the vehicles built at the Nurnberg Factory summerized, but there is also a section included after the intense bombing of the factory during the war, and how Germany continued production of Panther tanks, and rebuilding other AFV's, under extremely difficult conditions until the last days of warfare. Fantastic book, and subject matter. Perfect for the WWII historian, and armor Modeller alike. Recommended source of reference.
