“Bought for christmas present and my partner loves the design, she wears it everyday. Already though, (one month) the plating has off on the rear of the pendant where it sits against the body. If its real silver should it react with body and come off? or if it really is silver plated should it rub off so quick? I have attached the image to show. I wanted to purchase the matching ear rings but im hesitent to now. My recommendation would be to use a thicker plating, and offer the choice to be made from 100% silver or gold. ( i would buy this in 100% 18carat gold if had it available) I doubt this would be an issue with the ear rings as they dont touch the body. Thanks”

Dear Chris, Thank you for the picture and comments. The ring is silver plaited on brass, it can tarnish in colour due to a few reasons: 1. oxidation: Sulfur naturally reacts with sulphur compounds in the air, which causes it to tarnish and turn dull to yellowish over time. 2. Brass composition: Brass is an allot primarily made of Cooper and zinc. The Cooper in brass can react with the silver plating over time, especially if exposed to humidity or certain chemicals. This can cause the brass to leach through the thin silver layer, which might lead to discolouration or tarnishing. 3. Wear and Tear: Silver plating may wear off in certain spots due to friction or cleaning. As the thin later of silver starts to fade, the underlying brass will become visible, and it's natural colour may caused a noticeable tarnish effect on the silver plated surface. 4. Environmental Factors: Exposure to sweat, lotions, perfumes, or cleaning chemicals can speed up the tarnishing process. These substances can react with both the silver and the brass, leading to discolouration. The silver plaited is ever so thin, between 1mm - 10mm. We can assure that we have tried to find the best plating company we can due to the location of the maker. Please try to clean and polish with a jewellery cloth and it can help to restore its shine, and it will not be as dull as shown in the picture. The cloth will help to remove tarnish and dirt from the surface without damaging the silver plating. A jewellery cloth may not completely restore the shine (like new) especially in the area where the silver plating is worn thin, but it helps to keep the ring and necklace bright and shine.
