“I love the Altra Escalante Racers - they are my favourite shoe for all my road running. I occasionally wear Altra Escalantes which have softer cushioning, but at least 80% of my running is in the Escalante Racers which are firmer. They are firm shoe for people who like to feel the ground-reaction force as they run, so not for people who like highly cushioned shoes. They are well made and last longer than the average running shoe. Highly recommended if you want a shoe in this category.
One quirk they have is the 'knitted' upper. This means the centre part of the upper is literally like a tough fishing net - you can see your foot through the 'net'. This is great for breathability in the summer, but can be a bit chilly in winter. I don't mind as I love the shoe, but would like it if they were available in both 'knitted' and normal construction - I'd have one of each.”
“Very light zero drop runners. Great on the roads with nice grippy feel & good airflow. Enough padding but still allows you still feel the road under your feet. Nice wide toe box & very comfortable once adjusted.I think massive bouncy running shoes are all wrong, if you feel the same these are for you.”
