“Having run on some very hard trails I was looking for a shoe to give more cushioning than my normal Salmon Speedcross offer. I also wanted a wide fit and that usually limits shoe scope.
First impression was ok - fairly light shoe and looked cushioned. I wanted to make sure the drop compared to my normal shoe was not going to be a dramatic change and this show only changed the drop by 2mm.
First run had first mile on road and I thought they were a bit 'flappy' and seemed not to rotate but flap down onto the road.
Once I got offroad there were no issues.
I have done 4 runs so far ranging from 8K to a 2 hour social run. No issues in terms of fitting, rubbing or blisters.
My last run was after some overnight rain and they handled that fine with some steep muddy ascent/descent.
The tops are very porous and I get wet feet pretty much first 2-3 mins into a run when my Salomons would be fine.
Overall I'm happy with the Hoka's as a trail shoe but would go back to Salomon/Inov8 for fell or when muddy.”
