Osmo 420 UV Protection Oil Extra and 410 have been designed to protect and enhance the wood's natural colour whilst slowing the greying process by 12 times compared to untreated wood. Osmo 420 Extra & 410 are ideal for vertical joinery such as windows, doors, cladding etc, the natural oil based microporous finish does not crack, flake, peel or blister.
We currently have in stock a special 3L tin for the price of 2.5L. This offer is only available for Osmo 420 and for a limited time.

Osmo 420 Extra and 410 UV Clear Satin Protection oils have a satin finish and act as a transparent oil-based protective  finish for exterior wood. The 420 Extra contains a biocide to prevent the growth of algae, mildew and fungal attack whilst the 410 doesn't. The microporous surface allows the wood to breathe whilst reducing swelling and shrinkage.

Please note that Osmo UV Protection Oils are also available with a light pigment; Osmo UV Protection Oil Tints in Spruce (424), Oak (425), Larch (426), Douglas Fir (427), Cedar (428) and Natural (429), please see the UV Protection Oil Tints listing for more details. Please note that the pigmented versions will always offer significantly better UV protection than the clear Osmo 410 or 420. Osmo UV protection can also be used as top coat on already coloured treated wood which have had a coat of Osmo Natural Oil Wood Stain, Osmo Wood/Decking Oil, Osmo Country Colour or HS Plus, in this situation the Osmo UV-Protection Oil will extend the intervals between renovations significantly.

As a self-priming finish, Osmo 420 & 410 prevent the greying process on vertical surfaces with a UV protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood when two coats are applied. The Osmo 420 contains active ingredients that prevent mould, algae and fungal attack. When applying a maintenance coat simply apply without sanding which makes it an easy and seamless application.

Key Product Features and Benefits:

Microporous breathable finish that doesn't crack, flake, peel or blister
Easy to maintain with no sanding back required before further applications
Extremely water and dirt resistant
Significantly reduces wood swelling and shrinkage
Enhances the natural character of the wood
420 contains biocides to protect against algae, mildew and fungal attack
A UV Protection factor of 12 compared to untreated timber (with recommended two coats)

Suitable Applications:

Osmo UV-Protection Oil 410 and 420 Extra are ideal for all vertical exterior wood surfaces: doors, windows, window shutters (dimensionally stable elements), carports, timber cladding, balconies, fences, pergolas, and summer houses (dimensionally unstable elements). It is also suitable for bamboo poles (e.g. in screens). Nb.UV protection oil should not be applied directly to horizontal surfaces or surfaces with less than a 15° slope otherwise water will not run off and will eventually permeate the coating. We would recommend using Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain for these applications.

Key Ingredients:
As with all Osmo wood oils Osmo UV protection oils are based on natural plant oils (sunflower oil, soya oil, thistle oil and linseed oil), siccatives (drying agents) and additives, 420 biocidal active (no biocidal additive in the 410) ingredient: Propicona- zole. Dearomatized white spirit (benzene-free). This product fulfils EU regulations (2004/42/EC) according to the VOC content of max. 400 g/l (Cat. A/e (2010)). Detailed declaration of ingredients available upon request from Osmo.

Method of Storage:

Osmo UV Protection oil will last up to 5 years or longer if the can is kept dry, away from direct heat and sunlight and kept tightly closed. If thickened by frost, store for 24-36 hours at room temperature before use.

How to Prepare the Surface:

The wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%), avoid applying to surfaces above 35°C. The Osmo 420 and 410 are ready to use, please do not thin. Stir well before use. Clean old microporous stains thoroughly. Any old paints and lacquers must be completely removed. It is always recommended to wear a dust mask during sanding. To help with absorption and ease of application do not sand surfaces finer than P120.

Fresh wood containing extractives and especially exotic hard wood needs to weather off (for approximately 6 - 8 weeks) after installation, pressure treated timber should be allowed to weather for a minimum of 10-12 weeks minimum. This allows the wood to becomes absorbent and the wood finish adheres optimally. A base coat with a coloured finish is always recommended, e.g. Natural Oil Woodstain or Wood/Decking Oil to give the best UV protection.

For renovations, clean old microporous wood finishes thoroughly. Clean and refresh

I bought this after all the great reviews but sadly it wasn't for me. I didn't like the finish it left on the timber and it takes forever to dry so you need at least 2 to 3 days good weather. The finish almost looks like it's been varnished I'm just glad I tested it first on a off cut of timber and didn't just go for it.
