Osmo 420 UV Protection Oil Extra Clear Satin has been designed to protect and enhance the wood's natural colour whilst slowing the greying process by 12 times compared to untreated wood. Osmo 420 Extra is ideal for vertical joinery such as windows, doors, cladding etc, the natural oil based microporous finish does not crack, flake, peel or blister.
Osmo 420 Extra Clear Satin UV Protection oils is a transparent oil-based protective finish for exterior wood. The 420 Extra version contains a biocide to prevent the growth of algae, mildew and fungal attack. If you want the version without a biocide please go to Osmo 410 UV Protection Oil. The microporous surface allows the wood to breathe whilst reducing swelling and shrinkage.

Please note that Osmo Extra UV Protection Oils are also available with a light pigment, which will further improve UV protection; Osmo UV Protection Oil Tints in Spruce (424), Oak (425), Larch (426), Douglas Fir (427), Cedar (428) and Natural (429), please see the UV Protection Oil Tints listing for more details. Please note that the pigmented versions will always offer significantly better UV protection than the clear finishes. Osmo UV protection can also be used as top coat on already coloured treated wood which have had a coat of Osmo Natural Oil Wood Stain, Osmo Wood/Decking Oil, Osmo Country Colour or HS Plus, in this situation the Osmo UV-Protection Oil will extend the intervals between renovations significantly.

As a self-priming finish, Osmo 420 prevents the greying process on vertical surfaces with a UV protection factor 12 in comparison to untreated wood when two coats are applied. The Osmo 420 contains active ingredients that prevent mould, algae and fungal attack. When applying a maintenance coat simply apply without sanding which makes it an easy and seamless application.

Key Product Features and Benefits:

Easy to maintain with no sanding back required before further applications
Extremely water and dirt resistant

Enhances the natural character of the wood
420 contains biocides to protect against algae, mildew and fungal attack
A UV Protection factor of 12 compared to untreated timber (with recommended two coats)

Suitable Applications:
Osmo UV-Protection Oil 420 Extra is ideal for all vertical exterior wood surfaces: doors, windows, window shutters (dimensionally stable elements), carports, timber cladding, balconies, fences, pergolas, and summer houses (dimensionally unstable elements). It is also suitable for bamboo poles (e.g. in screens). We would recommend using Osmo Natural Oil Woodstain for these applications.

Method of Storage:
Osmo UV Protection 420 oil will last up to 5 years or longer if the can is kept dry, away from direct heat and sunlight and kept tightly closed. If thickened by frost, store for 24-36 hours at room temperature before use.

How to Prepare the Surface:
When applying Osmo 420 UV Protection Oil, the wood surface must be clean, dry and frost-free (moisture content max. 20%), avoid applying to surfaces above 35°C or below 10°C. Osmo 420 UV Protection Oil is ready to use, please do not thin. Stir well before use. Clean old microporous stains thoroughly. Any old paints and lacquers must be completely removed. It is always recommended to wear a dust mask during sanding. To help with absorption and ease of application do not sand surfaces finer than P120.

Fresh wood containing extractives and especially exotic hard wood needs to weather off (for approximately 6 - 8 weeks) after installation, pressure treated timber should be allowed to weather for a minimum of 10-12 weeks minimum. This allows the wood to becomes absorbent and the wood finish adheres optimally. A base coat with a coloured finish is always recommended, e.g. Natural Oil Woodstain or Wood/Decking Oil to give the best UV protection.

For renovations, clean old microporous wood finishes thoroughly. Clean and refresh already greyed or weathered wood at the same time with Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel. Th

I used this to seal and protect my own wood carving project of an owl for the garden. I brushed it on thinly and waited for it to dry. Although it has been indoors in a heated room it has still not thoroughly dried after a full week. It is less sticky now however and I believe it will fully dry in time. Once dry I will need to coat the bottom and leave that to dry b4 applying a second coat. As my carving has been done from a tree trunk it has cracked due to drying out indoors (I'm assured this happens to all tree trunk carvings) I will have to repair the crack, shape and touch up the burning in and coat the effected area. Although the drying time has been longer than expected I do think this is a good protective product and will use it again on future wood carvings I do.

Easy to apply by brush on cedar - not quite 2.5 litres for about 50 sq metres on a garden room. Brings out the colour. Lots of advice from various sources including Oeoco, the building manufacturer, to use this....early days, but I'm optimistic...
