I needed a new MAF for my Mk 2.5 so I ordered the one from MX5 Parts which covers both the Mk 2 and 2.5 (1800cc) . This cured my rough running but left me with an erratic idle. From 800RPM, the revs drop to 500 then pick up again. The engine then hunts around 800 RPM rather erratically. According to information I've read, the original equipment number for the Mk 2.5 MAF is FS1E (with a blue spot on the top). For the Mk 2, it's FP39 with no blue spot. There is obviously a difference between the two and I wonder if the aftermarket Mk 2/.2.5 MAF is a slight compromise hence the erratic idle. I would need to buy the correct FS1E to check this out. However, they cost over £80 which is double the price I paid for the aftermarker version. Apart from that, the service from MX5 Parts was excellent.

Worked well at first, throttle response seemed improved and it was smoother than the tired OE sensor that had been on the car for almost 20 years.I say was because it started failing a few months after fitment, first it was picked up on MOT as it scraped it's way through an emissions test, then it started causing a misfire before sudden failure. Replacing it with that tired 20-year old sensor immediately cured it though.Useful as a short-term fix, but don't count on it's reliability.
