What a sound! This, coupled with the SI222 back box, makes a lovely burble at idle and a fantastic roar at medium revs especially under load. The car accelerates a bit quicker too.It comes in a huge cardboard box.I had it fitted by a local garage for £45 and it took just 50 mins.It looks like it will hit the diff but it just clears...just!You'll need 1 round gasket ring (SI2083), which isn't supplied, for the cat flange and exhaust paste for the silencer flange even though a gasket should be enough.

Bought with the single stainless rear box (SI222). Delivery good - ordered just before the BH weekend and they arrived just after. Nice looking bits of kit, although the welding is far from the prettiest out there. All fits together nicely once offered up, although it did take a couple of attempts to get the gasket between the centre section and the rear box to seal all the way around. Once on, sounds lovely - quiet when cruising but a with a faint burble in the background. Gets louder when the fun pedal is pressed though, which is what you want.Would have been nice if there were some washers included with the nuts and bolts - they are only just bigger than the holes they go through. A couple of standard spiral wound gaskets would have also been useful too, as the flange on the cat had rusted quite a bit and the gaskets supplied are only useful when connecting brand new faces.Much better that the old pipe that was on there, but be prepared for some cutting and swearing to get the old one off!

Arrived the following day. Stabilizer bars have to be removed but the quality of the pipe work is first class. Fitted in conjunction with the ss back box. Sounds just right - slightly louder & deeper than the standard box, you hear the exhaust now not the engine but not too loud, Good kit :-)

Problems first: This is not a complete kit and doesn't fit great. (The gaskets need modifying a bit to fit in with a standard Mazda exhaust. Also there are 2 compression 'O' rings that are needed but not included with the exhaust. Most annoying problem is that the pipe is routed slightly differently to the Mazda exhaust and now vibrates against the diff casing under load at low revs - clatter!).Second Problem: This wasn't well packaged and both gaskets were damaged on arrival (bubble wrap wont protect the end of a heavy exhaust pipe). That's unfortunately the 3rd item that's been damaged due to poor packaging at MX5Parts - maybe slower dispatch would be better.Good bits: I fitted this just to get rid of the mid section silencer and while there is no difference in noise below 5000 revs, over 5000 the exhaust develops a Mk1 roar that wasn't there before. Ultimately, the bit that matters is that even just removing one silencer the engine seems to rev more freely from 5000-7000 revs where before it felt sluggish.Worth the money? - maybe. Should probably have got the back box too...

Great bit of kit - especially mated with the stainless backbox. Surely contributes to the sweet burbly sound and power increase registered on the old 'bum dyno'. All in, one to get!

Hi, Be careful , I don't verify the tapping for the oxygene sensor (tapping was melted certainly because of the weld), and now i have the Mid section AND the Oxygene sensor unusable. So take time to verifiy before passing under the car (sorry for my english!). MX5parts propose to return the mid section but in France the transport costs are expensive and i'm afraid to have a new disappointment.

Fitted in conjunction with the S1222 rear box,Makes the MX5 sound much better and seems to let the car rev freer.Hope the gaskets supplied with the kit are availabe separately in case the exhaust ever has to come off for any reason.A bit of a fiddle to fit as some bracketry has to be removed to get it in place. But no problem to the competent DIY mechanic.
