Camshaft Locking Tool MX5 Mk1/2/2.5 Reviews

3.8 Rating 10 Reviews
Read MX5parts Reviews

Made exclusively for us right here in the UK, here is the answer to many peoples prayers!Take all the hassle out of getting the timing right when changing your cambelt with this incredibly simple cam locking tool! As the inlet cam is under tension from a valve spring, it has a tendancy to jump over to the next tooth when the belt is removed (or spin right round on the VVTI engine!)........well not anymore! Simply slide this tool between the two cam gears before you take the belt off and it will keep things nicely locked in place! It also helps if you want to remove the cam gears, locking them tight so the bolts can be cracked off. Also, if you are removing both the gears, cable tie them to the tool through the holes before removal and it will keep everything in line making refitting a doddle!Suitable for all Mk1 Mk2 & 2.5 models, 1989>2005.

Easy to use and does the job. I used a couple of cable ties to hold it in place.

This does exactly what it says on the tin. Easy fit when crankshaft and cam gears all aligned. Not an essential tool, but something less to worry about when changing cam belt etc. The service surpassed even the usual excellent MX5Parts standard - ordered yesterday, got an email at 09.05 this morning to say it had been dispatched, and it arrived with me in Scotland in the post at 11.15! Keep up the good work guys!

Great product that slots into place easily, and stays in place with a couple of cable ties. Made the cambelt/water pump swap much easier.

Used on a JDM mk2.5 1.8 RS model - no problems with this - it does fit my car without a doubt. Not sure how the other reviewer couldn't get it to fit - it's worth mentioning that it is by far easier to fit it with a cambelt on the sprockets. These tools by nature do need a little bit of wiggling to get them in place - especially as the valve springs are placing the sprockets under tension and making them want to move. I'd give this tool a 3.5 if I could. It works well for keeping the sprockets in place, so if you are replacing the cambelt or trying to remove the crankbolt - it's fine. However, it is looser than some similar tools i've just in the past for other cars. My concern being that if you are using this to undo the camshaft nuts, that little bit of play coupled with the fact it is metal, means it could damage the sprockets if you hit a spanner with a hammer to break free the nuts. It's a trade off though - if you don't need it for this purpose, the looser fit makes it much easier to attach. I've spent ages getting similar, tighter fitting tools on other cars.

Usually very satisfied with Mx5 parts, but this time, I am very disappointed. This tool is no use at all because it simply doesn't lock anything, especially for something quite expensive. I guess the cutting of the teeth lacks precision.
