Although this NAPA unit is advertised as fitting the MK1 (NA) it does require modification to fit. The swing bolt hole on the Altria threaded but needs to be blind so hade to be drilled out. Fine if you have the kit to do this and the basic skill but please note the is not a plug in and play solution

Be careful if you buy it, you have to drill the hole out for the pivot bolt

Apart from the front pivot bolt hole being threaded and needing drilling out which is a very simple job, this alternator is a perfect direct replacement for the original. Made in China, it seems very well made and every bit as good as the original. Fitted and working and hopefully will last. Recommended.

My ignition light came on Monday night on the way home. I was lucky that my trusty Eunos got me home without having to call out the breakdown (BTW in 13 years my Eunos has never broken down on me when out).So it was time to replace my old alternator which has lasted nearly 190000 miles which is good going. I ordered the replacement Monday night and it arrived Wednesday lunchtime. Super fast dispatch as usual from the MX5 Parts team. The after market is almost a direct replacement for the old Mitsubishi alternator. The front lower hole was threaded, which I thought would replace the nut, but lack of space in the engine meant that I couldn't feed the bolt from behind. So I simple used a 10mm drill to drill out the thread which took seconds to do with a bench drill. So now I could fit the bolt in from the front with the nut on the reverse as the original one was fitted. The replacement Alternator was almost identical to the old one and dose the job. Now my ignition lights now goes off and my Battery has now fully charge again. Happy Driving!

Oddly, the lower front pivot bolt hole was threaded, so it was necessary to drill this out before being able to feed the pivot bolt through.
