IL Motorsport Cold Air Induction Kit MX5 Mk2/2.5 Reviews

We have here a newly designed Cold Air Induction Kit System for the Mk2 & 2.5. To produce the cold air box, huge amounts of effort was put in to making this kit not only look good, but remain as fuctional as possible. To block any vibration from the engine, a flexible silicone hose was designed, and the intake box itself is mounted on soft rubber fittings. The airflow meter sits perfectly in the air outlet of the new box, and the supplied stainless steel clamps give the kit the perfect finish ensuring there are no air leaks. The kit is fully TUEV compliant for use across Europe except for counties who do not accept a German TUEV or "Teilegutachten".It is now even more effective, lighter and cheaper! There has been a great deal of time and money invested to develop new moulds to work with the very best materials to increase the airflow and the physical strength of the filter, whilst at the same time, reducing both the weight and the retail cost. The intake system takes the original size panel filter, so you can use your existing paper filter or replace it with any performance panel that is designed for the MX5 Mk2 or 2.5. The design of the intake is such that it gets only fresh cold air from in front of the radiator. This kit has been dyno tested on the European 1.6ltr engine and this showed a 7hp increase when using our intake. We hope to have a dyno test for the 1.8ltr available soon. The carefully designed intake works by only picking up cool air, reducing the distance that the intake air has to travel, and removing as many restrictions as possible. This means that the air reacts much stronger and faster than in a standard system or any other intake that we know of on the MX5 market.Click here for a fantastic fitting video!Fits all Mk2/2.5 models, 1998>2005Please Note: To fit this kit you will need to remove the bonnet prop. We would suggest fitting a set of these bonnet lifters in it's place.

I had some problems installing this: it seems the screws i got to fit the intake box with the radiator were too short, so I got a longer pair and some locking washers at a store. And there is no manual, but I found one online at the fabricators homepage. I'm pasting the link here:https://www.ilmotorsport.de/shop/get_documents.php5?docID=6082&art_no=NB0-5090&PHPSESSID=ac040e80228bc42d50582b5025eacdd5

So it's been well over a week since I installed this intake. First things first installing it will be a bit tricky if you run a standalone ECU without the MAF sensor as you'll have to buy some piping and another silicon join where the MAF used to sit. The filter cover screws are very sensitive!! I have already stripped one of them and the whole copper screw came out of the plastic mould. So i had to drill straight through and use another longer M5 Bolt and nut underneath. This intake system is the best out there. Forget pod filters, forget fancy chrome heavy piping that gets hot. This is the real deal. I took my dad for a drive, My brother, and my friends and they all say it has more power. I noticed when on the motorway doing 100KPH... I don't have to put much throttle down as much as I used to in 5th gear when accelerating to 110-120.it's a shorter ram style intake which means you'll get more torque down low and it's sucking cold air straight from the grill. What an amazing product. Worth every dollar. You will not find another cold air induction kit out there that's better then this!!! (unless you got a turbo)Here's a picture installed https://imgur.com/gallery/CT7JRpjMX5Parts & IL Motorsport Thank you so much.

Fitted this to my 1.8 mk2.5, the short ram kits are no doubt louder but I feel confident this out performs them in the real world and on hard track days. The only downside is it restricts the radiator size, if you intend to look at turbo or supercharger conversions in the future you may be selling this as part of the conversion and replacing with a short ram.

Just as a reply to the very negitive review - arranging a 'cold-air' intake system is the cheapest form of tunning going. Try comparing the ambient air tempreture against the tempreture of the air in the induction tract (or underbody temp. in the region of the intake filter) THEN do the sums! You can end up with something like a 30 to 40 degree tempreture differential. Compare then the density of air at the different temps and you will see that the 'cold' air density is so much higher ie more oxygen per unit charge.Run that against the stociometric(?) ratio (ideal fuel to air ratio) and you see that you can get more fuel in per charge the colder the intake air.Failing all that guff! - take out the plot on a cold and frosty morn!. The IC engine basically is an air pump - the more air that passes thru it the more fuel that can be added (and burnt) therefor increasing power. Ease the path of the air into the engine as much as is practical and use 'cold' air!!Dare I say it perhaps the kit in question is not very well engineered - ie the cold air bit is achieved but the inlet tract is so convoluted, filled with obstructions or a poor choice of filter - all tending to negate the cold air advantage.

DO NOT PURCHASE!Fast delivery from MX5parts as always! If you expect this induction kit to enhance your cars performance you will be very disappointed, because it actually decrease the torque noticeable. My car was faster 0-100km/h with the original airfilter system equipped. Other issues:- The robber mount thread was damaged and I had to be retreaded.- The clamps are very long and when fastened gets a 5-10 cm tale. Not what you expect off a xxx € kit.- The bonnet stay has to be removed, which should have been mentioned the kit description.- No installation instruction included. Conclusion: NOT recommendable for any purpose.Editors note: Sorry to hear this product did not meet your expectations. We have sold quite a number of these kits with no other negative feedback, and have even tested the kit of our own car which really did make a noticable improvement. However, if you are not entirely satisfied, please feel free to return the kit to us for a full refund.
