Air Filter Pipercross MX5 Mk2/2.5 Reviews

Pipercross are the official filter for the MX5 Championship, supplying every car on the grid with a Pipercross performance air filter. The same high quality filters that go into every MX5 race car can be purchased from us for your road car, so why not get yourself the No.1 filter for your MX5.For drivers that require 30% more airflow and a lifetime, washable air filter, a Pipercross replacement panel filter provides the perfect solution.Designed as an original equipment replacement, a Pipercross panel filter replaces the factory air filter within the airbox. Installation is as simple as opening the airbox, discarding the old filter and replacing it with a free-flowing Pipercross air filter. As airborn dirt particles are trapped by a paper or cotton-gauze air filter, there is a dramatic increase in pressure drop which essentially robs the engine of airflow and power. Due to the deep foam construction of each Pipercross air filter, airflow is able to negotiate trapped dirt.Air filter service intervals are extended with the Pipercross panel filter, with a lifespan (between cleaning) of double that of the same paper filter and nearly three times that of a cotton-gauze filter. By simply cleaning and refitting the Pipercross panel filter, there is less waste and service costs are reduced. Fits all Mk2 & 2.5 models, 1998>2005

I bought this panel as i've had K&Ns on previous cars and fancied a change.A panel filter is a good cost/performance compromise, as it probably gives similar small gains as an induction kit, but at a fraction of the cost. And if you want the induction noise, this panel, plus a few 10mm holes drilled in the base of the airbox should suffice! The panel was an absolute doddle to fit, took all of 2 minutes. It is a foam filter, and supposedly lets through around 30% more air than an OEM filter. The car now revs more freely and is slightly more responsive. It also now has a slightly nicer sound when you put your foot down at higher revs.Well worth the extra few quid if you need to replace the OEM filter at a service!

Have had the Pipercross Panel Filter fitted for 1 week now and the results are great.(you really notice it once your accelerating hard)The car accelerates far easier than with a standard paper filter. I did try the K&N panel filter firstbut was not impressed with it as it seemed to make no difference compared to the standardpaper filter. The K&N is a fabric type material. The Pipercross Filter is made of two layers of foam so the air really flows through. The fuel economy seems good too.MX5 parts seem to be having trouble getting them but you can buy them on Ebay andfrom Pipercross direct. The part number is: PP1268 (MX5 parts prices seem the best though).
