“Hi, purchased this for my mk 2 1998. Be aware that you may have drill new holes, in order to line up the black backing plate for these. This is not a problem. However, after fitting the back plate, and purchasing a new standard plate from Halfords, i could not get the registration plate to fit snuggly. Tryed lots if different ways to get in in but it appears the reg plate was slightly too big for the black backing plate. Having said this i managed to fit it, and it looks really good. The right hand side of the plate was slightly "bowed" which resulted in the top right hand clip of the Stainless Steel surround not being attached. This does not seem to be a problem, as the surround has another 5 clips and the plate has not moved atall since fitting. It also does not afftect the way the plate looks on the car. Overall happy with the purchase, but would have preferred a better fit.”

“Ordered Thursday at 3-20pm and was in receipt of item at 8-30am next morning,,,that's good service!!...my only quibble is that the stainless part is a bit sharp around the edge,,be carefull,,but after I washed the blood of the bumper??... well,,great look to the rear end...Thanks..”

“Very easy to fit and looks fantastic. The black plastic rear plate (which the stainless steel surround clips onto) has numerous pre drilled holes to make fitting so much easier. Excellent value for money. Very pleased.”

“The usual excellent service from MX5Parts! Looks great and goes well with the chrome accessories at the rear. I confirm that, sadly, it is too rigid to fit to the front of the MK3.Most people here seem to be re-fitting drilled number plates. But in my case I was using new plates and elected not to drill the rear plate and attempt to align with the existing holes in the bodywork. The rear panel of the MK3 isn’t quite flat, so I used a couple of strips of double-sided number plate tape, positioned to help firmly hold the assembly, in addition to two screws to the bodywork. It took me a while to figure out where to safely drill and which holes or slots were the best to use. My advice is to just take your time and make sure everything is positioned correctly before proceeding. Be careful if you do a trial run with your plate first, and then have to remove the plate from the frame before fitting, as it is quite easy to accidentally damage the retaining slots in the black plastic backing piece if you use a screw driver to ease out the tabs of the steel frame. Also be aware that the steel edges are quite thin and sharp. I foolishly tried to push the steel frame from the back with my thumb when removing the number plate and ended up with a very nasty cut! Since it relatively easy to remove the rear number plate from this frame, I used some Richbrook anti-theft bolts for the front number plate just to make it a little harder for thieves to take both plates. I am undecided about using double-sided tape to secure the rear plate in the frame because I need to be able to remove my private plates when I sell the car.”

“Further to my previous review. The surround has been on for a few days now, a doddle to attach, good quality and has really enhanced the number plate area. Pure class. Has improved the area from what looked like somebody had just thown the plate on and looked scruffy, now looks fantastic like it was meant to be there. You would be silly not to put this on, has made a real feature of a previously featureless area around the plate.”
