Was terrified fitting this to my Mk3 2007. Couldn't find definitive instruction on how to safely remove mirror, which is essential. There is a horseshoe type attachment to the windscreen. It's only small and very well attached. You just push hard, upwards, in the same plane as the windscreen (Do not pull directly towards you!) and the whole unit, including housing, comes away. Then pull the ball socket arm out of the mirror housing. Don't worry, it clicks in and out. Once removed, clean and prime back and sides of housing with materials provided and fit the chrome to the housing. Then clip back in the ball joint and slip back onto horse shoe attachment on windscreen. It's easy. Looks great.

If you have an auto dipping mirror this item will cover the sensor in the rear of the mirror and stop it working

Ordered 3.30pm, arrived 10.30am the next day. Nice quality item and very easy to fit IF the mirror is removed from the socket and the alcohol pad and priming solution are used as directed.

Looked great but I found it very hard to put on. After actually getting it on I found it hadn't stuck and took it back off and applied some more glue. When I put it back on it cracked under the circular part. It's now unuseable. Given the number of parts I've bought and fitted successfuly I can't help thinking that this is bad design so be very wary when fitting this.

I tried sliding off the mirror as some have advised but I didn't want to force it since this is a sensitive area of the windscreen.I thus decided to widen the open slot at the top of the cover,by cutting and then filing some 3mm from each side. This proved to be sufficient to fit the cover over the mirror without taking it off.I wonder why I.L.Motorsport didn't make the slot 5 or 6 mm wider. To cut and file the sides I first protected the chrome with masking tape, and I got a perfect finish.
