A previous review reported a burnt out solenoid. To mitigate this potential problem - instead of locking the solenoid operating rod to the lock rod using the screw I bent the solenoid rod at right angles (having passed it through the connecting block) so that the solenoid will pull the lock open but also allow the key operated rod to slide along and open the boot even if the solenoid is jammed. I installed a relay to operate the solenoid as the button supplied is rated at 3A and I was concerned the inrush to the solenoid could be much greater than that. I used a 2A fuse for the push button and the solenoid supply 10A. I piggybacked the push button supply from the cigar lighter fuse as I didn't want to lose the security of the boot when leaving the car. If you're prone to shutting your keys in the boot then a permanent live to the button is required! I just wanted to save more wear on my 32 year old lock!

I got the boot release as an addendum to the remote central locking kit that I reviewed with five stars. The boot release works perfectly from yards away and is a great improvement to the car. It is an IL Motorsport kit and is straight-forward to instal. do however think that it is disproportionally expensive compared with the central locking kit which has two actuators and a control module, hence only four stars.
