Front Discs, EBC Turbo Groove, MX5 Mk1 1.8 Reviews

EBC Turbo Groove Performance Front Disc SetThe wider slot actually draws cool air across the pad surface keeping pads and rotors cooler. They also expel dust, dirt and hot gases better than fine slots which eventually fill with rust and scale and become ineffective in our opinion. The blind drilled holes break down surface gases when braking from speed but do not weaken the rotor cross section as can happen with through drilling, thereby lessening the chance of rotors cracking over time and heavy use.Fits all Mk1 1.8 models, 1993>1998

Replaced my stock (slightly warped) vented discs with these and the difference in like night and day. Coupled with new EBC pads, these discs are well worth the money and super fast delivery as always from MX5P :)

I like the look of these and they do seem to make a very marginal improvement to stopping power (I drove a 1.6 Mk1 recently and the brakes were appalling in comparison to mine). They'll also keep the pads from glazing. A few problems: the zinc coating doesn't prevent rust for long, and mine are now looking like any other brake disc that's been on a car for two years. There is a swishing noise from the grooves which is very noticeable with the roof down - at first you think a wheel bearing has gone! Finally, I used to get a slight pulsing when braking between 70-65mph but at no other speed. It was there more or less from when the discs and pads were fitted, has never got worse and shouldn't be disc thickness variation (caused by runout) since I was careful to clean the mating surface of the hubs. An MX-5 specialist reckoned it was just a resonation between the grooved disc and something in the steering or suspension. I haven't noticed it recently, and it could even be the anti-skid surface they put down on slip roads these days.

Ordered these at 3pm Thurs, arrived next day by 12pm!! this is the second lot of these discs, has any one else had trouble with the grooves/dimples filling in/ The old ones are 2 years old though. i was advised against getting them but they along with green pads look so cool. Many thanks to mx5parts for great service/products.Neil
