I purchased a set of these Luggage Straps as part of a combination of kit comprising the Straps, a Luggage Rack and an Aluminium Case for our Mk3.5. While the Luggage Rack is very good the rest of the kit is a total shambles. The much vaunted Aluminium Case is in no way water resistant and the supports that are supposed to fit on the rack to protect the aluminium are not available so I had to make my own. I have also had to have a cover made for the Aluminium Case so as to prevent rain entering via the locks. The leather Luggage Straps stretch considerably when wet and are needlessly complicated to fit and remove as referred to in other reviews so I won't detail the saga here. The fix is to acquire some 30mmm wide "D" rings, high duty nylon hooks and 8mm shock cord from yacht chandlers. With these items a quick release, self tensioning arrangement can be made up for the ends of the straps.Sadly the whole paraphernalia (excepting the rack itself) is clearly fine weather only kit and that I'm afraid, in English conditions, is about as much use as a sick headache! However, if you are keen on DIY, have plenty of time available and I guess many MX5 owners are in this position, you'll be in your element with this lot!

Learnt a lesson here not to assume anything and to read the reviews! I assumed like one of the other reviewers that they would just be long belts; In fact they are 6 straps which confused me and hubby totally; i can't believe you need a screw driver to attach them, I certainly wouldn't have bought them had I realised and I wouldn't recommend them.

I bought these straps to go with the Chrome Luggage Rack also available from MX5 Parts. They look really good and seem very high quality. I assumed that they would be three straps which would simply thread through the holes on the luggage rack rather like three long belts: instead they double back at each end to form a loop which loops round the luggage rack bars and are then fastened together by two small screws. Frankly I don't understand why: it must require more work to make them and it makes them extremely impractical to use as you have to carry a screwdriver and spend ages fiddling around with them every time you want to take them off... which in my case is quite often and not something I want to do in the Scottish Highlands with numb fingers: I speak from experience. I can imagine it would be even worse in the dark and in bad weather. Added to this the risk of losing the tiny screws on holiday and having to lash my luggage to the car with belts "borrowed" from hotel towelling robes seems, to me, quite high. I would have given them a higher score for looks and quality but unfortunately they are just too impractical to get a good score. I would recommend instead going to a gentleman's emporium which specialises in the gentleman of "heroic proportions" and buying three belts... I probably will if they ever wear out.
