Vinyl Hood Budget with PVC Window MX5 Mk1 Reviews

5 Rating 4 Reviews
Read MX5parts Reviews

Our budget MK1 hood is made from top quality OEM (original equipment manufacturer) material. This design does not have a zip for the rear window which means that the rear window is folded whenever you lower the roof. This in itself is not a probelm but we would recommend that the hood is not lowered in extremely cold conditions as there is the potential of damage to the rear window.Ideal hood for the budget conscious or if you are looking to smarten up the exterior at a bargain price.Fit, finish and quality are excellentFree Fitting On This Hood!Book your car in with us at our workshops in Portsmouth and we will fit your hood for you absolutely free of charge, saving you £99.95 in labour! I bought this last May to replace the torn and cracked original on my 1991 Eunos. I had delayed for a long time because of worrying it would prove difficult to fit and need garaging while I did it. I needn't have worried. If you are used to working with your hands and basic tools, it's straightforward. I completed mine in four hours even with two delays which you can avoid as I'll share them.Do not ignore the advice to stuff a cloth into the internal drain holes. I ignored it and spent 20 minutes trying to coax out a nut from beneath with a coat hanger.Use a cordless drill with a small socket to release the bar in the rear parcel shelf; this will greatly speed things as it's very fiddly with a spanner!Don't bother with rivets in the bottom of the door posts, they are not needed. Just make sure you fold the corner correctly (examine the old one as you remove it). The only rivet I needed was to secure the tension wire (incidentally, you have to use the wire from your old roof, a replacement is not included). My longest delay was closing the roof, it is a very tight fit. It was 20 degrees C when I did mine but it's too tight even at that temperature to close. After struggling for half an hour I put an electric fan heater on inside the car for 10 minutes and it closed easily. Leave it closed for a week and it's perfect thereafter.I've now had it on 10 months without garaging and it's still perfect, no leaks and no draughts. If you use a cordless driver and a heater as recommended, it can be done in three hours so don't be put off. Excellent value for money.

My old hood was not the original on the car, so I found that this budget BAS hood has stronger fastenings then the old £450 BAS international hood does, forget the rivets that are supplied, fix the hood underneath on the metal seal holders. I've had mine in all weathers and no leaks, (my opinion anyway). Taking the roof/hood off the car makes it far easier. Just make sure you clean the rain rail and drains before fitting new hood, prolong the life even more.Taking my time and having no experience, I had the job done in four hours. I rang my local Mazda garage and they had to confirm whether they even fitted hoods for an MX5! They were going to charge me £300 labour for fitting it and they would keep the car overnight. Even though it is a budget hood it is a very good overall hood, which does fit, its strong and there are no creases. So with basic engineering skills for it being the cheapest roof on this site, I've found the overall quality and fitting is more worthwhile than the £450 mohair from BAS International.P.S. fantastic site and all round service

I was a bit worried about fitting this hood as it's the budget version, but the quality was good, and very east to fit, mind you I would fit 10 of these instead of window winder cables. Great service from M5PARTS.COM don't know how they do it. Now cant wait to Saturday morning when my lowering springs turn up and get my hands dirty again.
