The Brodit model-specific brackets are excellent, but there is a clear misunderstanding of how they work, reading some of the other reviews. This is a two-part system. In addition to this car-specific bracket, you also then need to buy separately their phone-specific holder. You then screw the holder to the bracket, which then provides a combined solution which is both car and phone specific. You don't just use this mount on its own.

Nice made item but it doesn't actually hold a phone etc as it just provides a smallish flat surface. Bit puzzled as how to use it to hold my Blackberry but will try elastic bands or some nonslip mat - neither is ideal.

bought for my mk2.5. Point 1: as another comment has stated, fixing it to the left hand side of the console (as per the instructions) renders it useless as the handbrake when lowered would hit anything you put on it. Fixing it to the drivers side means anything placed on top is struck when putting the car in reverse or moving your knee.Point 2: astonishing that the top surface (where you would place your phone etc.) is smooth plastic meaning you then have to purchase a non-slip mat in addition to affix to the top so your phone doesn't shoot off every time you turn a corner. I would have hoped for the price the product would actually be useful.

this works great on my RHD mx5 Mk2, I used no nails sticky tape to hold the phone mount onto this bracket with and it is a good solution to a phone holder :)

Great idea but.... If you purchase the bracket for the right hand drive and fix it as described you will be placing it direcly under the hand brake leaver so rendering the bracket useless. Tried mine on the drivers side and found that the bracket angled oddly when removing it to ponder how to make best use of it the 'clip' at the bottom edge which holds on to the trim became over strained and will now not fix to anything! Not sure if buying the left hand version would have helped as the temptation to see what it looks like fitted before adding phones and satnav goodies means you need to take great care with how you handle the bracket. I have ordered the dash version now in the hope this will be more substantial and keep the glass free of obstructions. Dissapointed. So two stars
