“Possibly the worst carrot cake I have ever bought and certainly the most expensive! The topping was too runny and limited in amount, so more ended up on the wrapping than in me. First time I have had a carrot cake without any raisins or sultanas in it. Even the recipe in the Artisan Home Baking by Meg Rivers has them as a listed ingredient.”
Dear Douglas, I am so sorry to read this. The topping should not be runny at all, I am concerned that perhaps your cake was badly stored in transit as this is never something we're encountered before. “This was the first time I ordered from Meg Rivers; in fact I had never heard of them until I ordered.
I was ordering a carrot cake from someone else that I had tried before, but the topping wasn’t quite what I wanted.
I was doing my research when I saw the photo of the carrot cake on Meg Rivers’ web site, the topping was just what I was looking for and hoped the cake tasted as good as the photo looked.
It came on time - well wrapped. It was for my mum’s 90th birthday and I didn’t need it for another 3 days. I didn’t know how to store it until then, so I called them and it seemed as though I got advice from the very person that baked and packed it.
When it was time to open it, the smell was wonderful and, at the 90th party for my mum, everyone asked me if I made it. LOL LOL LOL I confessed that I didn’t and told them where I got it from. They all loved it. There was barely any left.
The cake was moist and smelt gorgeous and the topping was better than I anticipated.
I would definitely buy from them again and recommend it to anyone.
