Our skins are sustainably sourced and carefully selected and examined for quality. They produce great depth of tone and sustain. Our skins are naturally hand-cured in lime, which gives that all-important bass tone, then 'pickled' to close up the pores and finally stretched and left to sun dry, achieving a lovely clean 'bleached' finish. In order to improve and maintain the condition of your bodhrán skin we recommend you treat your goatskin with our very own bodhrán cream, DrumDiddly not only will it help you achieve an even more beautiful tone but it will also extend the life of your bodhrán skin.
Taping
All of Paraic’s bodhráns come with taped skin to help achieve that unique McNeela bass sound. Inspired by drummers using E-rings on their drum kits to dampen the tone, Paraic found that taping the outer rim of the skin lowered the tone of the bodhrán and extended its harmonic range. Taping your bodhrán helps bring about a more harmonic overtone-to-basic tone relation and consequently a more melodic quality to the sound produced. In other words, it helps the bodhrán sound more like a musical instrument and ensures you'll always be welcome at a session! “Beautiful bodhran with a deep resonating bass sound. Comes with a great storage bag and beater. Really looking forward to mastering this - I'm a complete beginner and the instructional video is very easy to follow. Just need to get the skills up now! You're a true craftsman Paraic!”

“Wonderful joy Thank you so much - I bought for my 21yo son Gus for Christmas and despite the anxiety, it did arrive in time!! Customer service around this was also very kind and supportive. The bodhran and the kit of accessories has been fantastic - my son is getting so much joy out of it, and playing along with his father who plays whistles/flute. They jam often now and Gus has picked up the technique really well with the help of many you tube videos courtesy of long held favourite bands. It's also been a great focus of distraction during our more recent restrictions again - always better to be playing music than being morose! The drum diddly cream is beautiful too and easy to rub in. “Great 1st Bodhran. I've been playing for few weeks now & by using different beaters & strokes, I'm starting to discover the different tones & sounds you can get. I play guitar & have a small studio, so I've mic'd it up & added touch of reverb, then headphones on & I'm off in my own little world. Very suprised at the amount of different tones these produce with just small, subtle changes of the left hand (on the skin), from bass drum sounds to rim shots & a host of toms in between. Lovely sounding, solid instrument. Thanks Paraic.”
