Robert Clarke's iconic traditional conical bore has been retained to give the instrument its unique sound, called "chiff". Made using tin-plate with a wooden plug in the mouthpiece. Produces a lovely sweet tone.

“Got this for nostalgia reasons. Not a bad sound I suppose (atmospheric) but drains the breath from your lungs compared to most other inexpensive whistles. I wouldn't buy it again and wouldn't recommend for beginners... just if you're looking for a breathy sound.”

“I have not bought the product yet but will soon, judging by the reviews I hear and see it is very high quality. I live in America but my great great great grandfather lived in Ireland I intend to go back and meet with my family if there is any, I like the sound of these types of whistles and want to learn to play.”
