“Great Snare Sound on a Bass Drum. This is a great way to get the sound of a snare out of your bodhrán. If you're playing with quiet music or sitting in with a jazz or groove band this beater will be invaluable. The only downside, of course, is you lose about 99% of the drum's tonality using it as a brush on the front of the skin. Using it on the back can get real interesting, though!”

“As soon as I can, I'll get more! When you take it out of the package it is surprising just how much it actually retracts. It is easy to bring out, too, and it stays in place. The balance is great! Once you have it swinging, you can brush it right against the skin and come out with many different sounds. Some wire brushes I have were bent after the first few days of using them, they were not pliable enough, but the nylon used here is perfect. It is a perfect length and feel, and perfect all around!”

“I bought this brush beater along with many others from McNeela's over the last couple of years. Also a 16 inch tunable bodhran. Extremely happy with every purchase. The retractable brush beater gives a great soft sound and I'm often asked to play a "train" sound for some numbers. The bristles can sometimes retract into the handle if I'm playing hard but I've overcome this minor problem with a wide rubber band. Most of the time I just beat the brush softly and there isn't really a problem. I like how that with the bristles fully retracted, the beater can be used like a solid beater without having to change beater mid tune. McNeela's have excellent products and customer service. I think it's time that I add another beater to my collection! Cheers, Steve.”

“After using a variety of tipplers for many years, I admit that I found it a challenge to use the brush beater. My style of playing kept gradually pushing the brushes back into the recess handle. After more playing, I think I am getting it! Buy one and you will love the 'shuffle' effect. Neil Jolly, Melbourne, Australia”
