I have been playing this concertina for just over a year now. The instrument has been put together with great care. Overall considering the price point it is absolutely spot on and a great buy. I love the leather bellows. I have found a difference in tone quality between some of the same notes on different rows, and very, very slight tuning discrepancies. I also wish the buttons were either bushed or thicker as they do have a bit of slop. I've taken my concertina to an experienced workshop for some basic work and they were impressed with it. I have to admit I am a stickler and these would go unnoticed by all but the most difficult to please. If the niggles I've mentioned were rectified in house it would probably add 50% on to the price which is probably why it doesn't make sense to. Overall it is a fantastic instrument for the price and a really good choice for someone who wants a new 'decent' instrument which can be played for years of enjoyment.

The Swan concertina is a great step up from the basic starter. The sound is great and my son is enjoying the instrument upgrade immensely. I can’t recommend the customer service approach of McNeelas highly enough. Each of my interactions has been friendly, supportive, efficient and knowledgeable.

Such a step-up. This instrument is such a jump from my old cheaper and slightly out of tune 20 button concertina. I'm now playing much more and learning songs faster than before. The design is really quite nice. The only hiccup would be that some of the buttons rub on the metal (not enough to interrupt playing) causing wear to them.

I LOVE THIS INSTRUMENT. See what happened to me several weeks ago to be in a mountain cottage where I met a company of merry strangers. One of them played an accordion. I brought my concertina up there (2000 m altitude). The accordion player had his instrument permanently stored in the cottage because of its weight, naturally. He played very well, but his repertoire was somehow limited. My estimate is he knew to play max. 20 tunes- but he played them very well. I, on the other hand, could play litteraly any tune which came up in conversaion in less than 10 minutes. So main reason for my love for concertina are: - easy to play (I started in january this year and I can already play hundreds of tunes) - portable (can put in my rucksack) - loud and fun if other people sing with me (I find playing and singing simultaneously for the moment very difficult, I managed to learn it only in few songs) - can play very diverse genres, people are amazed because they have these prejudices that on an irish instrument one can play only irish music

It’s a shame concertinas are so expensive! It means you have to pay a lot to get something good enough to get started. I have many high end stringed instruments so am familiar with the price of good quality. The Swan is generally well made; solid and good feel. Sound seems good to this beginner and having checked the tuning on all buttons it’s 100% accurate. Buttons feel slightly plastic and end plates are a tad sharp on the corners - could benefit from slight smoothing. Overall happy (once I’d come to terms with how much you need to spend to get a ‘proper’ concertina!) and I’m sure this instrument will serve me very well. Advice and service from McNeela very good and much appreciated as were the initial instructional vids.

Nice concertina. Bought for my wife who is loving it. Only problem is she has a short thumb which doesn't reach the air button. Found on-line that this is a common problem and we are enjoying learning of some of the ways people deal with this.
