Hi Dana. Thanks for the feedback! We couldn't agree more - you can always tell when someone is testing a Killarney whistle in our shop!

For the most part I like the whistle. If I were going to change one thing it would be the mouthpiece. Because the mouthpiece is short you can’t hold the mouthpiece in your mouth with your teeth which at times can be very useful. I’m use to the cheaper whistle with the long mouthpiece witch frees up my hands somewhat.

Thanks for your feedback on the Killarney Brass whistle, Ed. Hopefully, you'll get used to the shorter mouthpiece and be comfortable playing it in no time.

I have had my Killarney brass D for about 4 years , I would recommend this whistle for anyone contemplating purchasing a whistle stepping up from the usual poor sounding cheap whistle and wanting a better instrument. That is the key word for me with the Killarney, it is an "instument" and feels like one.I often play mine for several hours at a time and it never feels like an effort. The sound is clear and sweet, I have considered purchaing a second high D whistle, because I take an old feadog with me in the van, but I need something which will play accurately, will I be buying a "better" whistle an upgrade from the Killarney , no, from a choice of all whistles on this site it will be another Killarney brass D

Hi Brian. Thanks for leaving a review - and what a glowing review it was! We believe every whistle player should try a Killarney whistle at least once in their life. Its sweet tone can hit just right for some people! We're glad you're enjoying your new whistle. Best of luck with it!

Not in tune (C natural). Always clogged not very powerful. A waste of money. I really don’t understand the four and five stars. I bought a Wild whistle for my daughter and after comparing it with the Killarney, I immediately understood that I have made a disastrous choice with the Killarney. I wish I had known this before I bought the Killarney and I can see why McNeela doesn't sell it today (but they still sold it to me last year).

Hi François, We're very sorry to hear about your experience with the Killarney brass whistle. Killarney whistles are usually excellent but it would appear that you have received a less than perfect whistle in this instance. This can happen even with the best whistle makers. You've had the whistle for almost a year but we'd like to look after you. Can you please contact us at service@mcneelamusic.com?

Stunner! The Killarney whistle is a stunner, visually and tonally. It has lotsof chiff for that old-school tone. The whistle has a decent amount of back pressure for appropriate wind regulation. The volume is consistent across the tessitura, with a strong bell note. The upper register is able to sing out, but is very responsive to wind and will sing quietly, as well, with no cracking. The instrument is responsive, too, with regard to ornamentation. Visually, the whistle is beautiful — fit and finish are superb. The body appears to be brushed brass. The head is snug, but not tight, so tuning is easy. The fipple is a 3 layer affair; the block and mouthpiece are Delrin, with a layer of brass between. The pins securing the fipple protrude just a bit, causing a lovely visual effect that helps keep the whistle from rolling when set down. The name “Killarney” and the key designation are etched into the head, just below the mouth. The instrument is top heavy at the head joint, but it balances well for me between the top thumb and lip. The mouthpiece is extremely comfortable on the lips; the architecture of the curvature is just right. The only niggle with mine is that C natural is sharp when played OXXOOO. I have to finger OXXXXO to get the note in tune. The whistle is not over loud. The scale is standard, and appropriate for the strong overtones it produces. It is not a “busker scale.” That being said, I believe it will hold its own in session. The mouth is voiced such that the tone is not in the least breathy. Of the whistles I own, this produces the most distinctive tone, and is, without a doubt, the most responsive one of the bunch. I believe the price is appropriate for the quality. I recommend the whistle to all serious comers.
